Nice mix Sonixx. Love how you dealt with the vox. Dry is good in my books. I think there might be some distortion in the high end there. Just my opinion.

Good ear hueseph... i have a lite saturation on it... that's exactly what I wanted... his voice is raspy and I wanted to draw attention to it.. I really like his voice and the girls fit well IMO... didn't Chris track this? pretty good job

and thanks for the feedback...

Underp, I thank you for you positive comments on my mixing. I would like to know if you listenned to my mix on post #232
The snare is fatter, the back vocals are less burried and the acoustic guitar has more caracter.

Let me know, I know mshilarious prefered my second attempt, I just want to know which one I should keep for final.

I think the snare is a tad loud in the second version so I will turn it down and post a new one maybe.

Thx a lot for putting me in #1 :P lol

I did listen to it, but didn't like it.

The snare is extremely loud for my taste and the ambience it's not the same as the first one.

It sounds more clear, specially in vocals, but i can't tell the song is reaching the climax between 4:06 > 4:18.

The first mix will stay on my winamp playlist for the next 2 months i guess ;)

Is the ambience range what goes excelent with the music style. Don't try to make it sound like somes mixes that i prefer not to mention :D

Thanks a lot for the comments, some prefer the loud snare, some don't. I prefer a mellow snare for this song, but it seems others prefer something harder, I will check back and probably convert to the first one for my final mix.

Thx for the positive comments

i caved and remixed some, i addressed most everything that was mentioned to me in some amount.
hope you like it.

my second and probably last attempt.

thankx.

Yeah, I think it is more in balance now. Not bad work here at all :)

Allrite.. I did take 2 days off from the song and came back with somewhat refreshed ears. Actually I found out that my mix wasn't even close to the idea I had in my mind. So I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked and lost my mind!

Couln't really say what was wrong, it just didn't "cut it". So I started all over. I kept the basic "formula" of the song I had but mixed it completely for the scratch and voila! Much more towards the mix I had in my mind.

So please check it out and comment something. I know you all are sooooo bored to this song, but anyway :o

I hate to be the schmuck that posts right after giraffe, but here goes. It's pretty dry. Not much eq either. Mainly tried to get the levels more even.

BTW, giraffe, that's a good mix. Really enjoyed it.

Your drums sound quite roomy. Alot of that room track there? I don't know if you want it that way or not, but I guess you want? :). I get the impression where the drums are playing in a totally different "space" than the rest of the band; they don't "glue" to each other. Tried to hipass the roomtrack around 500-650hz? Also your overheads seem to lack the sparkle and air. Using only the room track?

Lead gtr is very low in the mix. I would like to hear it bit more, but hey it is just me, another guitarist hehe :).

That distortion background guitar is "stealing the spotlight" from the vox. It is too loud if panned like that. Lower it or figure some other way to make it work better. At the moment it is also messing your L/R balance badly; it's quite "left heavy".

The main vox is buried under that back distgtr, can't really comment if the vox needs to be louder/softer/fatter/whatever until that burying distgtr gives some room for it. Also the vox has a bit nasally sound in it. If you listen the dry track with a "analyzing ear" (huh?) you'll notice that the mic/room wasn't the best one for him. The dry vox has quite bump at mid freq. There is only limited amount of "first-aid" (or post-aid hehe) you can give to it until it starts to sound just simply weird. Our ears tend to notice very quickly any anomalies in vox.

hmh.. thats all folks :p

btw, check out my try, I think I did manage to get that vox to sound somewhat ok.

Hmh.. I need some advice if anyone wants to give away some tips for a fellow competitor hehe :p

My problem are toms.. I mean I just don't understand what to do to them! I'v been trying just about everything.. dry, all my EQs, all my comps, limiters, dozen different verbs from room to chathedral and all magical tricks and voodoo dances I might come up with and still those *astards sound like cardboardboxes when in full mixs.. In solo they are quite ok, but in a mix.. "pot pot plat plat".. aargh!

I'm starting to be quite happy with my mix otherwise. Some minor tweaking with the snare and then those toms.. When I get those ok it is done.

Check out:My tom madness

Thanks for the input, Kainz. I'm going to continue to work on this thing until the contest ends. I need the practice. I'm listerning to yours right now, but as you've heard from my mix, I can't give you any advice. Unless you want to lose. :D
Nice tones at the start. Like what you did with the guitars. I haven't been able to do that without destroying the rest of the tune. But, now I have some more refrence material.

Thanks again. Nice job on yours.

Is it just me or is the track “Distorted Guitar R” supposed to not begin until 2:40 or so on the time line? I am fine with it, I just wondered if perhaps I got a bum download with missing data.

I haven’t read this whole thread so, if you folks already discussed this, please forgive me.
