Hmh.. I wonder if it is ok if I (as a competitor) review other's mixes?

I'm kinda bored and wouldn't mind to make a quick reviews of mixes. How do you guys feel? :)

I, for one, would be honored to to hear your review of my mix... My KRK's should be here in a day or two, so i'll be going through a learning curve with them.... I'm going to start with the last headphone mix I did and build from that...

Hopefully I'll have the feel of the KRK's before the deadline

:D

Hmh, guess I might then make some reviews :)

I thought to keep some time off from the tune, but lets say I'll just keep some break mixing it then hehe :D

KRK's nice. Should improve your workflow I think :)

This is my second attempt and it will be my final.
Tomorrow will start the summer tour of my band

Good luck to all
see you next PMC

Hah, I said I wouldn't touch the mix until at least a week, but naah...
Those few errors were so obvious.. So I fixed those and replaced the mp3.

So for now.. I'm starting to run out of "errors" here :(
I really don't seem to find anything big to fix anymore and I have mixed myself out of the tune also. Really need sometime off from it and come back after a while with a new set of ears.

Tell me what do you think? Point me the errors here or anything that might help the tune? Gimme some opininons! :D

And if you guys don't mind, I would like to do some quick reviews of your mixes. I'm a bit bored and nothing else to do :)

So those reviews coming up sooner or later :p

hey, i finally have a little compitition.

my advice, throw out (or turn down) the bottom snare track.
kick still needs some dynamic love. (compress/whatever)

don't be afaraid to not use things.

in genral (not you) people with the most problems mix wise are really just trying to hard.
to many effects, too much eq, too much whatever.
bassically a well tracked song, and people are making this (i think) more difficult than it really is.

but hell, you don't see me making the big bucks. ;)

Hah! :)

Hmh, I don't really agree with you when it comes to to kick. I'm trying to fight for natural, yet a bit modern overall sound. IMO for example in your mix the kick is bit too "aggressive" for my taste. Reminds me more from "rap" kick than "half acoustic song kick" (I mean the kick is very infront and is very big, it is masking the music quite similar way than usually in "basic rap mix"). Good place to hear my approach for the kick drum is at around 1:20.

The snare I somewhat agree now when you pointed it out. Have to give it a shot. Thanks :)

What comes to your mix, quite nice work there. Allthou I find things that I would like change or try:

- You have nice dry in your face sound with the vocals (using the only the "room" recored in the track allready?), but it has that "phoney" sound. That midrange is irritating my ears very fast.

- The kick ;). IMO it is too big, but that is just really a opinion hehe. But on the other hand you went the "big kick" route and I went the "big bass" route, can't have both :)

- The bass. This song has very nice bass sound. In your mix I can barely "hear" the sound. I mean the bass definitely is there and I hear it, but I would love it to have a bit more that "fretless" feel.

- Those distorted guitars burrow the whole midrange when they come in. Those tracks have enormous buildup at 900-1100.

- Overheads are a bit too "rough" for my taste. They seem to be "floating up there" in a totally different room than the whole other band (and drums).

- You have HUGE toms there! :D They sound very nice indeed. But they are louder than vocals or any other thing in the mix.

Overall I would give some more "balance" (frequency/volume relations) in your mix. Those mid range build ups in various instruments give the overall mix very "hollow" and somewhat "cold" sound. Those also kill the vocals performance by burying it quite alot.

BTW I'm just throwing some ideas and my humble opinions (maby very much "not so correct" ones hehe). Just clarifying so you won't (hopefully) keep me as some moron who thinks he knows everything.. far from it :D

EDIT: Oh and if you are wondering, I'm monitoring with Dynaudio BM6As and the Dynaudio sub in a tweaked room. Checked the mix also with my trusty AKG K240 and with more cheapo Sonys.

7 string, your mix sounds quite good. But the snare sounds too roomy and same with the toms, and there isnt enough bass or lo end which makes it sound not so powerfull. Ths kick drum sounds real good for this type of music i think youv got that one mastered anyway. I like your panning techniques pretty cool. But the fade in at the start sounds like its gonna kick into a dance tune or something.

NL5....

How do I download via FTP? So far I have tried downloding this through my browser twice. I now have a 198 meg and a 234 meg download, but somehow they did not finish. Or maybe how do I download in such a way that I can resume the download later? Thanks:D

You need FTP client software. Search Google for "free FTP client".

I have smartftp, but what address do I use to connect? I tried the same one from previous PMC's, but it requires a user ID and password.

i'm not saying turn your's up, i'm saying it's to dynamic.

thare is some reverb on the vox, but not much, and i have a "thing" about eqing a vocal. i should probably get over it, but all the eq in the world won't take the room sound out.

i would have tracked the bass differently, my treatment of it is a reflection of that.

see bass notes.

thats because i'm useing the room mic's on the end and not the overheads.

maby, but toms don't happen very often, so i crank em.
(maby too much though)

i was only going to do this once, but maby i'll give into peer preasure and re-mix a little. maby.
