7 string, your mix sounds quite good. But the snare sounds too roomy and same with the toms, and there isnt enough bass or lo end which makes it sound not so powerfull. Ths kick drum sounds real good for this type of music i think youv got that one mastered anyway. I like your panning techniques pretty cool. But the fade in at the start sounds like its gonna kick into a dance tune or something.

Thanks! I was thinking there was too much room in the drums myself but I started second guessing so I thought I'd post and see if I got the same reaction from others.

The fade in/reverse verb in the beginning was just something to make it different.

i'm not saying turn your's up, i'm saying it's to dynamic.

I'm quite interested from this. How do you mean too dynamic? The overall playing of the kick is very dynamic I can't nor want to kill it completely. I feel it would destroy some of the song's dynamic structure (from verse to chorus and so on, that kick beefs it up nicely). Or are you meaning something totally different? The kick sound overall? If the drummer plays like this, and I think it fits in the song, I don't want to kill it. :)

When it comes to being too dynamic under, uhm lets say 120hz, it really isnt too dynamic there. It has been guite nicely taken care of when I added some mastering to the track.

well here we go for me. i hope its something ill enjoy mixing.

hopefully i wont get side tracked with other things too this time. heh.

Updated:
Thought I'd go for more of the "Live" feel this time instead of the dryer "Studio" mix.

Not my final, still need work on bk-vox and add dist-guitar:

Sky - mix

very nice Mac. i'm listening on computer speakers...but i like your overall mix. sounds very balanced and full. i don't know if i like you taking out the guitar solo at parts, but i'll live with it ;) I like the trail out on the end too...you were able to avoid that dreadful pop in the guitar track

props

Hey Ben, thanks man.
I also took out a great part of the distortion guitar! :p
It gives the song more tension, IMO.

I don't consider myself an expert on this area, and i don't know what these judges are looking for.

According to my speakers, wich i consider really good:

1.48425_tenkas_pcm11.mp3 ( laws of physics were not implement, but sounds great)

2.-Sky-Finsters Mix.aiff.mp3 ( marry a kick-drum right now )

3.PMC11(beta8).mp3

:D sorry. didn't want to miss the chance to write some s#it, hehe.

:( What does it take to get someone to tell me what's wrong with the mix i did so I can fix it around here?

i'll review yours if you review mine :p

i'm listening on computer speakers...so bare that in mind.
the drums seem WAY off beat. i have no clue why...maybe it's the guitars that are off. did you put a delay on them? the snare sound needs to have less of the bottom snare and more of the top where the attack is at, i personally think. vocals sound good, but there are parts that the reverb sounds a little much. i definitely think you can turn the lead guitar up some more and the acoustic down. also the lead guitar seems a little mid heavy.
i think with the drums it wouldn't hurt to just start all over from scratch and try again. they really seem delayed and not mixed well. the snare especially (both off beat and mixing wise). also, i think Fin's comment on dynamics could help you too. think of the song as a peice where it builds at parts and is quieter at other ones...use of automation will help you here. after the guitar solo/break section the vocals come back in and the band stays at the same volume it seems and it's hard to hear the vocals.
also, a big engineer job is to listen to any extra artificats that are on the track that need to be taken out. such as the guy talking at the end on his vocal track.

okay....those are my suggestions. good luck

Thanks I was wondering about the reverb and drums mostly I'll mix it again when I get home with your suggestions and listen to your mix I would not want to make a comment on it from laptop speakers at work. :)

xfinsterx said about a week ago that he would be doing more reviews that night but so far I haven't seen them. I'm interested too! Maybe his reviews got panned. ;)

I'm getting there myself so make that last one my final entry. I wasn't kidding when I said I was hearing that song in my dreams. It's a great song! Honestly! But damn... time to move on to something else. Who's next?

Oh, wait, that's an album...

:)

Underdep, I thank you for you positive comments on my mixing. I would like to know if you listenned to my mix on post #232
The snare is fatter, the backvocals are less burried and the acoustic guitar has more caracter.

Let me know, I know mshilarious prefered my second attempt, I just want to know which one I should keep for final.

I think the snare is a tad loud in the second version so I will turn it down and post a new one maybe.

Thx a lot for putting me in #1 :P lol

OK...

I've been tinkering with stuff on my new KRK's (as time has allowed) and here's my first mix using them...

Initially, I wanted to use them to build off my other mix (headphone), but as soon as I plugged em in, I heard it would be best to start completely from scratch...

lol

Hey - is it just me or is that pitch shifted somehow (wrong bitrate maybe)?

Sorry, it's been a LONG weekend, and I am not completely awake............
