Problem with Condenser Mic

My condenser mic (AKG C 2000 B) keeps cutting out every 30 seconds or so. I have it going through a cheap brhringer tube mic100 preamp.

I checked the preamp and it works fine with a guitar pluged direct. Could the problem be with the phantom power it is supplying going wrong occasionally or is it more likely to be the mic?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Whenever I have a problem like this my first place to look is the cord. Its also the second and third place. Bad cord, bad connectors, loose connectors. Try a differant cord.

After that, i will let the experts here give you a better suggestion.

thanks for the reply. I changed the mic chord but it made no difference.

Borrow a mixer or a preamp and see if the problem is in the preamp or in the mic.

In order to trouble shoot, you need other components. First, try every channel on the board and see if they all do it. Then you need either a different condenser mic or a different preamp/mixer to narrow it down. Anything is possible, but just playing the percentages, the odds are a lot higher that your board is snafu than the mic.-Richie

thanks you're right. The phantom power on the mixer wasn't working properly so I bought myself a used VC3Q and all is fine.
