I've got a problem, I have been using Cool Edit Pro 1.2a for the last couple years without a problem; it makes great recordings for me.
I recently installed Cool Edit Pro 2.0 on the same machine that I have 1.2 on (in a different directory). All the settings and device settings are the same, but CEP 2.0 gives me pops and cracks in the recordings. I can run 1.2 and it records fine, but 2.0 just doesn't sound very good.

Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

CEP 2.0

Version 2 is larger and demands more from your system. What are the specs on your computer. Here's the requirements from Syntrillium's web site.

minimum requirements:
Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
233 MHz processor
64 MB of RAM
55 MB free hard disk space
800x600 resolution
Stereo sound card
CD-ROM drive

Recommended:
700 MHz processor
128 MB of RAM
1024x768 resolution

yep - agreed. Probly your computer not being able to handle the requirements of v2 or you have a hardware conflict....

My hardware

Well, I'm running it on a PII 400, 256 MB Ram, 3 IDE Drives, one for the OS, the temp files are on the other drives, the hardware in the system is a Creative Labs SB Live for output and an M-Audio Delta 66 card for input. A Netgear NIC, Voodoo3 16mb vid card and a SCSI card for SCSI CDRW and an Apex Pinnacle Micro 4.6 Gig Optical drive. Win2K Pro with SP2....
The only other apps installed on this dedicated machine are Winamp, CEP 1.2, CEP 2.0 and the drivers for each card in the system. None of the software other than the base WIN2K drivers are installed for the SB Live.

You have a lot of devices on your machine. I would check for shared interrupts. I had to rearrange, remove cards and disable devices in bios setup to get down to all dedicated IRQs. Sorry I can't tell you how to do it on W2K.

pops crackles

I has to do with your buffer settings in CE2.0. Go to options -> settings -> system and play with your buffer settings. CE2.0 has a good help section for this or go to their site and check out their FAQ/Troubleshooting.
