hey, I have cubase5. Its pretty awsome. However, I have a problem. i'll be recording for a while, then all of a sudden, the recorded stuff has this wierd backround noise. Does it have to do with the card? Its really wierd. By the way, i'm using a 20 bit project card like from the project pack with cubasisVST. Will it really help if I upgrade to a 24 bit?? and 24 bit record? Please give your opinion on this and any cards you know would be a coo deal for me. Also one more thing, what effects boxes are essentials to a home recording studio??

thanx and bye.

check that the effects on your soundcard are not activated. My SBLive lets you activate and deactivate various effects on input and output. If your cards a SB check the settings on SOURCE and put "no effects" on wave, cd, etc. Maybe yóu´re recording effects without knowing it. good luck

Something else... mute audio tracks while recording...especially microphones.could be accumalating loop.

dude

yea thanx man. That does help actually, i've realized. But like, only after a while, it starts buzzing in the backround, then stops, and starts again. Its really wierd. And one more thing, is a 24 bit card worth it as to 16 bit recording?

24 bit versus 16

Can´t help you on that one pal, although I believe the higher the number the better the quality. With my cubase 3.7 I always record at 24 bits. Beware that some other software won´t like 24 and tell you to send 16 bit instead, some editors for example. As far as all this hum stuff I don´t have any more ideas, but let me sit on it and if I think of anything I´ll let you know.

when you say 16 bit or 24 bit, I assume that you are speaking of "output" resolution.....if so, call the manufacturer techies and ask them for the ppqn (parts per quarter note) value.....the more parts per quarter note, the higher the resolution....(I think).
