there is no "normal" pro tools

there is Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools LE, and Pro Tools M-Powered
if you don't already know what HD is or who it's targeted towards...then LE is fine for you. The Mbox 2 Mini will come with Pro Tools LE. But decide what your needs are first and then find something that will fulfill them.

thanks for the speedy reply buddy, and i guess il have to read up on both of the other versions you mentioned to get the best one to suit me. on AS's website they offer a boxed upgrade for LE to what looks to be M-Powered at a cost of 94GBP so i may well purchase that.

m-powered and LE are basically the same...the differance is the compatible hardware....M-powered is for M-audio gear and LE is for Digi hardware....the good thing about having M-audio stuff is that you can use it with just about any software you want, where Digi hardware is only compatible with PT LE.

have a loot at the FAQ that's at the top of this forum. It'll answer your question in a bit more detail.

Actually, Digi hardware is compatible with most programs that support ASIO, WDM or CoreAudio drivers!

you've been lied to the whole time :D

Ok then

What the difference between Pro tools LE and HD? Can you get the same production from both. Is HD just a more powerful DAW set up? Can you a chive out come from both using the same plug in's? (Knowing that some plug in's will work in HD and not LE) I am curious about that.

I have worked on both and i feel like they both get the job done the same way but HD has more Power to it and tracks and plug in's(and sample rate

PT HD is DSP and CPU based.
PT LE/MP is CPU based only.

PT HD enesure always zero latency, it menas that you can track musicans and make hadphone mixes using TDM plug-ins directly from the PT mixer, using send routed to phisical outputs.

PT LE/MP software is a stripped down version of PT HD.
Some missing featuers of LT/MP are really useful (i.e. trim automation, VCA channles, group trakcs flexibility).

With PT HD you can use TDM (DSP based), RTAS (cpu based) and AS (cpu based) plug-ins
With PT LE you can use only RTAS and AS plug-ins.

So, each plug-in sold with both TDM and RTAS versions works in PT HD and LE.

TDM only plug-ins will work only on HD systems.

The difference has been outlined in the FAQ that's sticky'd at the top of the forum. I suggest you read it ;)

Incidentally, the summing buss is quite different between HD and LE.

I have used my digi hardware with Nuendo, Adobe Audition and all of that "not so good" stuff

Reaper Crowd, the (noun):

Group of self-righteous audio enthusiasts who, under the misguided belief that their DAW of choice (Reaper) must be better than any other DAW available on the market simply because it is very cheap, insist on traveling to every corner of the web trying to convert other audio enthusiast to Reaperism. Often known to use the argument "But it's so CHEAP!!" and "Pfff, even Reaper can do that, and it'll only cost you 60 bucks" ad nauseam

All done tongue-in-cheek of course......there's nothing fundamentally wrong with them ;)
