Compression Addict
in pro studios, i see them with the mixin board in front of them, and then are monitoring the person and other pre-recorded instrumernts. Are these simply huge hard disc recorders, or are they going into the comp.?

I'm not sure I understand your question completely but it sounds like you're wondering what the mixing console is for.

During tracking it's used to monitor the sources being recorded (and the sources could be recorded to tape, to digital tape, to hard disk, etc...) - during mixing the console is used to blend the recorded tracks (whether they're on tape, digital tape or hard disk) to a 2-track version of the song.

You're question was perfectly clear to me, Blue Bear is just a green horn when it comes to recording, so you have to type slowly.:D Check out his shitty, little home studio.

you call that a studio!? my bedroom studio is off the hook!

what i meant was, when they are done recording, how many channels can they mix and monitor seperately for final mixdown. (using the mixer)

every studio has a different number of tracks they can mixdown. however many tracks they have on their mixer combined with how many inputs their adat or HD has is how many they can use....normally between 16 and 72 but a median would probably be 24-32

I'm going to find a digital camera and show some pictures of my studio.....LOL
