presonus tube pre

hi there everyone! well im new to this forum. i have a question about an issue im having with my presonus tube pre. whenever i power it on the VU meter maxes out and the clip light turns out. all the other buttons dont work either. im getting no sound out of it on my DAW. i have tried differant cables and differant plugs. i have also tried another tube it in. the tube i triend was not brand new though. what do you guys suggest i should try? any help would be awsome. i have already gotten lots of help from this forum and i really hope to get some more!

And this is all happening when you have a microphone plugged into the chain?

no. as soon as i put the power cable in the back to turn it on.
