Hi everyone. I'm seriously considering purchasing the PreSonus Digimax 8 channel preamp/limiter. The little that I have heard about it from a review standpoint has been wonderful. However, I want to get more opinions and also hear about some experiences with this piece of eqiupment, if possible. Any insight is, as always, greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I dont think it has as nice of preamps as the MP20. Doesnt it have 8 for under $1000? (beware) I havent heard of anyone here using one, but try the EQ forums and rec.audio.pro, too.
They have good customer support, and the tech guy will talk your ear off, good dude... give em a call and ask questions.

Wondering about Clock

If I were to buy 3 of these things and hook them all up to my MOTU 2408, can I hook the clock out on 1 of them to feed the other two?

Daisey chaining clock is a bad idea. Personally, I use a Lucid GenX 6 to distribute clock. And Tubedude, I wonder where you get all your information. That unit has 8 class A mic pre's and has a retail price of $1700 but can be had between $1300 and $1400.

Sorry for interuppting, but I have heard that Mackie's VLZ preamps are just as good as the PreSonus's MP20 preamps. A mackie 1402 VLZ mixer is $550 and comes with 6 preamps. The MP20 is $500 and has 2 preamps.

Is this true. You can save so much money by buying the Mackie, if this is true. I just don't know if this is the truth... Someone please straighten me out!

I have a Mackie VLZ PRO, as well as numerous other preamps.
The Mackie is very good *for an inexpensive mixer preamp*;
not very good as a serious microphone preamp.

I haven't heard the MP20 or Digimax, but I suspect they are probably better sounding than the Mackie from reviews by others I have read.

Peace,
Rick

plug a ribbon mic into a mp20. You will quickly understand why it costs a little bit more...

While it's true that Mackie pres aren't bad as far as budgit mixers go and are quite usable, most, but not all, of the stand alone mic pres are better. Some have a color, a particular sound, and some are faster, more accurate. You can make some damn fine recordings with nothing but Mackie pres. We're taking things to a fine point here when discussing the attributes of various mic pres,
audible differences for sure but fine one none the less.

Presonis

I have a Mackie 1402vlz and the pre amps are wonderful, then I bought a MP-20 and you can tell the difference.Very nice preamp!Looked at the digimax but a little sceptical cause of the price,But then again the MP-20 is a deal,I`d like to audition the vxp too, straight from xlr to optical....wow should be very clean.
