I didn't know about that mic. This one has the same kind of rim mount as the Senn heiser E604 and sounds pretty good at 1/5th the price. I'll go take a look at the other mic you're talking about since I love the ATM25 for kick.

Gidge.......you are on a chain? Bondage, M and S? The mind boggles:D

Yup, that's the one I'm recomending for toms. I see they're saying it's good for kick altho it comes with a tom mounting clamp. I'll hafta try mine against the ATM25 and the Pro25 this weekend. The people in the R/S advertising dept. really don't have a clue as to what they're writing about.

Maybe it's my past experience in the chess world that makes me seem
a bit too bold in bringing up "upcoming products" like the B1, VTP-1,
etc. You can spend years as a chess master developing opening lines
only to have them demolished over the board in a tournament!
(luckily, rare for me) Looking at some of the brilliant engineers/producers
like George Martin, Geoff Emerick, or Joe Meek (!), they had the confidence
to help develop techniques and equipment to further recording.
My point is that a similar optimism exists on my humble level when
someone I respect like Alan says the B1 or VTP-1 is good, then it's
worthwhile to at least mention it to someone who may otherwise be
unaware of it. This is made with the implicit assumption we're all
adult enough to try to trust our ears and take that test ride.
There is a difference in "recommending" and "mentioning".

I wandered into a Tandy store earlier tonight (Thursday night shopping here). The guy hadn't heard anything about these mics........not that we get the whole Tandy/Radio Shack range here anyways, but he informed me that Tandy Aust., is no longer owned by the US parent company, so I dare say the range of stock will slowly dwindle away to nothing.

I used to have a Tandy laptop computer and a Tandy portable printer that used thermal paper. The laptop had a monochrome monitor. I was thinking it was a TRS-80, but it might have been a TRP-80 or something like that, I cant remember.

I was contracting floor maintenance at the time. I would go in and talk to a store manager, and if he requested a bid, I would walk out to my truck and walk back in 5 minutes later with a bid. I was really UP TOWN! <g>

Hey Slack...

I *HAVE* that program (and that computer) still... my wife keeps looking at it (sitting in a pile of cables in the corner of an office drawer) and continually asks me when I'm gonna throw it away.

NEVER!!!

I'm figuring that the Color Computer will come back in style just like tube mic pre's and vintage boards....

Now... where's that 300 baud modem... I've got some surfing to do!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
(I've gone mad... and I don't have to work tomorrow...)

When the Audio Buyers eventually found out that I used to be in music, it started to get a little crazy. I did write the manual for the Radio Shack synth (which was really a mini-Moog), and I got to meet Bob Moog, a very cool guy.

How cool!

Harvey I used one of those Radio Shack "mini-Moogs" a couple years back to track some analog noize (before the Nord Lead reignited the analog synth craze) and some burbles and bleeps and such. I wish I still had it, I could add it to my Harvey Gerst shrine. hehe

So what's the word on those Radio Shack 330-3032 ? I know it won't sound as good as an ATM 25 but is it really a good option for all toms 10"-18" ?

nP

Velvet Elvis,

I used to use a lot of Tandy computer gear. I had that program on a Color Computer. I also had one of the early MIDI programs that ran on the TRS-80 model III and IV. This was high-tech in those days.

I got rid of all that stuff about ten years ago. Sometimes, I wished that I had kept it all. Nostalgia I guess.

Yeah... I keep all that crap along side my Atari 2600 :)

Don't really know why... just hard to part with my youth I guess...

psychotherapy anyone!?!

We only tried it on the mid tom and it did a pretty good job there. Our floor tom mic is usually a Sennheiser 421, but sometimes we'll use an ATM25 or the 504D (same as the E604). When I get a chance, I'll try it for kick and the other toms.

For those of you who remember the Radio Shack CoCo (the Color Computer), that's me on the cover of the "Bedlam" game. For some reason, Tandy decided I was the perfect model for the insane doctor in the game.

Slack, last year you posted a thread in the Dragon's Cave in re to
a Tandy Compooter with a pic of it! Do you still remeber the link!!??

i learned Basic programming on a TRaSh-80.......

Harvey while you are trying that mic on kick, see what it does for a snare also.....

Harvey...

That's cool about the Bedlam game... I remember it quite well.

Little did you know that while YOU were the model for the cover,
*I* was the intended client ;-) Snot nosed pimple faced loner kid with nothing to do but play video games.

Funny... now that I've grown up the only thing that really changed is that I had to build a studio so that my games had better sound ;-) bwahahaha

I remember spending countless hours downloading games from BBS sites. I still have all kinds of them. I once got in a heap of trouble from my parents because I had logged $500 worth of long distance calls to a BBS that had cool software on it.

ahhhh...

Somewhere I have a decent COCO emulator for the PC... it was fun to crank up all those old games.

That's funny - I forgot all about the test I wrote for the manual. I actually came up with the idea for the game and Bob Arnstein did the programming. Brings back some great memories.

Harvey,

I figured they just photographed you for the Bedlam cover right after one of those long sessions... you know the kind... the one where the client is a "professional" and knows exactly what knob you should turn etc to make it sound like "such and such band".

"Will it be recorded in Doubly?" - Spinal Tap

:)
