This doesn't happen with mics but with line level. Wondering what's up in this case?
preamp leds are almost clipping, meters are -12 to -24, faders 0

Taking the slow road
all my lines into the box have line/mic pots. If I increase gain from the source or if I do it w/ the trim pots, either way the clip lights turn red but I don't have as high of a reading on the meters than I would if I were using a mic, even if I had the mic going to gear turning it into a line level. I was recording a signal from tape, just wondering what the difference was.

The tape is -10. What is your soundcard input???
