Hello Everybody.
I am trying to record my classic guitar but levels are quite low even if preamp levels are about 30 db.
I dont know why. Should I put the audio interface output level a bit higher ? ( even if I read that it is better to keep preamp levels high and audio interface levels low).
Maybe it is also given by the fact that DAW db levels by default is set at -36 db?
Or should I get closer to the mics (I am recording at around 30-40 cm of distance..)

I am using the following items.
-two matched pair Oktava mk-012
-Sontronics sonora preamp
-M-audio Audiophile interface
-goes into Ableton Live 8

Thanks!!!

Use the gain controls as much as you need to get your recording peaks at about -12dB FS metered in the DAW. Check that the metering is set to input so you are seeing the actual input levels. Judging by the specifications for your preamp, you should have no difficulty getting a suitable level of signal to the interface.

The DAW controls should be at 0dB by default. I am not sure what would be defaulting to -36dB. Can you post a screen shot?

If there is some sort of mixer or control panel associated with the interface, make sure that inputs are set to 0dB.

Paul
