pre-amp "transition" period?

makes me feel very lucky to live in australia. my partner was in hospital for a week last year and had a major operation, thankfully it didn't cost us a cent. its scary to think of how we'd have been financially had we lived in the u.s..

lol because my car is the equivalent of your kids. i was putting my mic stand in the back of the car and getting ready to hurry off to a gig. the stand was leaning on guitar bag and when i slammed the door and turned around, all i heard was boom! CRASH!! i closed the door with enough force to send it up and through the passenger side window.

It seems they used to be more understanding of most peoples inability to fork over 5k at the drop of a hat, but not so recently.

7k is almost a symester at a real college. 7k is more toys than I could dream of. 7k is 40 months worth of house payments.

When you think about it like that, it sucks that I'm paying for all of the people who can't afford to, won't or don't... but that's another thread... sorry :o
 
you can always kick up a fuss in the local media and sue the doctor and the hospital for botching the surgery or whatever else and make the doctor's malpractice insurance go higher than it already is and then he'd be forced to quit and become a plumber.

My friggin' life story (geesh!)

I've been in this house (which is WAY too small now with 5 children's) for almost 10 years now, and always paid as much extra as I could. We were looking to double our mortgage on a better neighborhood and slightly larger house, but things got wierd at work, and they've laid off 1/3 of the work force (YAY for Bush!). We decided to wait!

This town is kinda like a lot of places I've seen documentaries on in Michigan (Flint?)... used to be a pretty "booming" place when all the factories were still here, but now is turning into a ghost town, and the armpit of Illinois. Property values have diminished greatly, and I'm not in the most favorable of locales.

15 years ago, when I was 19, I was making $15 an hour in a factory. That place is now long gone. I have a 'decent' job (pharmaceutical industry peon),relatively speaking, but more importantly my wife is finishing up in college, in the hopes of our further ascent away from the "poverty level" :D

Probably T.M.I., but vicodin has that affect on me... :)

Crap, Im 19 and only making 7 bucks an hour as a "professional in-restaurant caterer" (All right, all right, I make sandwiches, do dishes, and mop floors)

Haha, guess that's why I'm taking that damn calculus class for the third time, along with physics and engineering courses! =D

That and the fact that I wanna build my own gear so I can tell the world how much their designs suck and how things should be done.
 
yeah the area here is/was kinda like that. not to start singling people out but a "good job" for blacks was the "mill"(cone mills. they make wrangler jeans) or the post office or some mail room. since those jobs are less and less, call centers seem to be a "good job" notice none of these jobs require an education. i love some of the looks i get when i tell people I'm a web news editor and not a mail room worker

Since, the original topic was about a pre-amp vs a Mackie PA.
My question is the following:

Between getting an old Mackie 1604 or a DMP3 which one would you
guys go for? This is spending the same amount of money $160.00
roughly.

Would I be better off with a DMP3 or the Mackie?
 
well do you need just one preamp or do you need more than one preamp? as for quality in the preamp, i think the dmp3 wins that.
 
Definitely verify the phantom power voltage before you buy the Mackie.

Well, I already have a MG 10/2 but I recently got some Monitors (Active) and I am using my MG as a control for the Monitors. However, I thought I could buy a 'better' mixer and use my small yamaha as solely HeadPhone/Monitor control and use the other one for recording.

I currently only record one thing at a time, 'cause I only got one mic cable (waiting to buy some bulk and make my own), but I only need to do voiceovers so no plan on having to record 24 channels at once (yet).

So, the dmp3 is 'quieter' than the old mackie mixer?
