can i run a line from the pre amp out on a amp head to the line in of my sound card?
its a 400 watt, 4 ohms peavey centurion head and an ensoniq audio pci sound card. i want to record guitars and bass this way.

Yes you can, and it will sound nothing like what you hear through your amp, unless it is a clean signal, and even then it will still sound a bit different. For distortion, it will usually sound awful, unless the line out has some kind of speaker emulation, which few of those sound all that great either. Go buy a Shure SM-57, and a ART Tube MP and start recording. This will give you excellent results.

Thanks, already have the mike, I just happen to have all this peavey stuff for some reason, (it would be a long story) I have a decade amp that I have used before, some kind of pa head and a speaker with 2 12 in. black widows in it. this is all stuff bought way back by various people from the local music store that just happened to sell a lot of peavey stuff.
