I have a pair of Mackie MR5s... and I hate them. They are nosey, and boomy. They have no high end change response. In other words, I boost around 10k, and cannot detect minute changes.

I'm looking for a pair with even frequencies, and good change response around $500.
The old Alesis are good, I know.

Can anyone direct me to a good brand/model that is good for acoustic based music?

Thanks much!

Well if this is happening a few things could be amiss.

The tweeters have blown so you have no hi end.
You ears are full of wax or your hearing has gone.
The room you are in sounds like crap with uneven bass and the hi's are being sucked up.

These monitors should sound fine.

While you may not want to hear this, no pun intended, for $500 you should be able to get a set of Mackie HR 624's maybe $600. I assure you however, they are not as "low end" as the mackies you currently have. Well worth the $500-$700 they go for now. Very transparent IMO.I always also recommend most of the krk's. The VXT series and the rokits aren't horrible. I recently saw a set of Adam ax7's go for $700 and I would tell you to get those over every and anything next to Genelec. I would tell you to stay away from M-Audio monitors, Behringer and Samson to name a few. They are priced accordingly. Hope some of this info is useful to you. Late.

Dude... The mackies and the krks you mentioned are $500 EACH. That means he will have to pay $1000 to have a set.
