All mixers need power amps (unless they're powered PA mixers, which generally sound like poop in a recording situation). Well, I guess if you were only using headphones...

Power amp OR powered monitors. Take your pick.

wait, i dont think you (or I!) understand. I am going to use the mixer to go into my fostex. then i moniter with active monites out of the fostex and on my computer. i just want to know if the mixer its self willl be powered from a wall unit.

The mixer comes with a plug. You plug one into your surge protector, and one intro the mixer. batta bing batta boom.

You will not blow a fuse unless you are running a lot at once, aka:

a few huge guitar amps, your copmuter, your monitors, your fostex, your mixer, your lights, your cameras, your this and your that ALL on the same fuse in your house/apprtment...

aka, no you wont blow a fuse. and if you do, you know to now plug them all into there again at the same time. ha.

does a mixer like, this one ( http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--BEHUB2222FXP ) need an external power amp. Will it blow a fuse if i just plug it into the wall outlet. (Well, i have a surge protector)

im looking into a new mixer, and i dont wanna have to buy a power amp

thanks

This unit will draw next to nothing out of a wall circuit. The only reason you will need a power amp is if you have unpowered speakers that need to get power. The power amp is not required to connect the mixer to your fostex recorder. You should run your powered speakers out of the back of the mixer so you can monitor playback..
