Sorry about the double post, but I discovered that I can't embed videos the way I'm used to doing it here.

No worries man, I did the same thing in my post and had to edit it haha.

Dude, your really good on that Djembe and that dancer can move!

How long have you been playing?

Thanks. I'm playing doumbek/darbukah/derbekke (same drum but different names depending on where you're from) which is a Middle-Eastern and Balkan instrument on the first and third video and djembe which is West African on the second video.
I've been playing drums since I was about 10 or 11 years old (mostly kit and rudiments) and I took up hand drums in the 1970's. My first wife was a belly dancer and I got roped into playing for her and her friends........ and I really liked it, and then I started studying Middle-Eastern Percussion. At an event there were merchants selling djembes from Senegal and I liked it and bought one to use with belly dance music, then I heard Mamady Keita play and I got hooked on West African percussion (and never used any of my djembes for belly dance again). I started using some of the patterns from arabic music and West African music in my fills on the kit and I like mixing it up.

The sound quality on the belly dance pieces is not good because it is coming through a small mic on a consumer level video cam. The stage piece with the West African performance was commercially produced and has a more accurate sound quality.

Yeah, I was going to say that I thought I got into playing Rock for the pussy. This Arab shit is where it's at, baby.

My new stage name is "Al Kayda".

Y'know................... somewhere deep down inside, I knew I shouldn't have posted these or I'd get it....
Ah, Hell, go ahead, have at it! I really love what I'm doing anyway. :p

I'm 56 years old and while still very active, most of these dancers are younger than my daughter. My future wife (who's my age) is a retired belly dancer and now plays bass derbekke with me and my group.
These dancers sure are pretty to look at though.:D

Haha drossfile I liked your little explination halfway through the video!
I find myself being frustrated because I dont practice as much as I should as well!:D
Your snare backbeat work is killer, and I like your fills too!
One more thing, the sound quality is good too!

I liked your second video of you solo, really good stuff going on there, I liked your tom patterns and footwork...and your facial expression at the beggining of the video haha

Thanks for sharing those guys!:)

I hate you fuckers that make it look so easy....I struggle with simple patterns, and make multiple screw ups...I couldn't even attempt some of the stuff you guys play without thinking about.....:D

Same here. Some people get inspired with good drumming, I get mad when I watch good drummers.
