OOOH ...I forgot i was suppose to be judgin....damn..been a little busy...gotta deadline to meet...
I think you guys can still judge, it'll give a little more opinion than just me. Just use the same point system, and check em out. I made it real hard to hit a 10 in anything, below that, if the beat ----sounded---- good, than it got a good rating. When it comes down to Interest, that's when you say that sounding good is actually sounding good if you know what I mean. A beat can sound good, but lack that interest, so the mixing it down & arrangments could be great, but lack of interest would cause it to fail.
D Ease....
You hear all those shitty simple ass beats on the radio? (mainly in the south)... I would give them a decent score, even though I think they suck. Only because to be a engineer, or someone working with sound, you have to throw out "what you like" and all the types of genres you like, and be the person who knows SOUND. Once you start judging something because of your own interest, your not really a good judge, so that's why I judge it based on what I heard, the actual sound etc. I made this commercial the other day for school, and it was the WORST in the WORLD cause I rushed through it in also 7 minutes flat lol.. I got a 90 on it... I asked why, and if it meets the criteria, than he scores it on that, not on how fuckin' shitty the lines were to it... Quality was there, music was there, vox was on there... only thing he said was wrong in THIS assignment, was volume level on some places... In the real world, I would have been fired for this 1 commercial lol. Anyways, don't judge your own beat vs how your other beats sound. Judge it by exactly what it is. If you had the chorus like 15ms off beat, and all that, then yeah, your mixing woulda been near 0 lol. But it wasn't like that far off. Arrangments, you did have the verses, and choruses, You didn't just plop the beat and give the listener EVERYTHING within' the first 5 seconds of the beat. When giving them everything right at the start, why would they want to listen to the rest when they "heard" it all already? Interest factor drops after that. That's why your interest factor wasn't real low. The sounds of the kit, all the instruments, were there. You can press play, and hear all the instruments you put in there, and they sit well with each other, though you can always once in a while drive say a guitar that's delayed up hot to drive the music & interest factor up (great for rock music). Since your instruments sat together decent, your mixing, quality were steady. Plus I based the scores on, how many contestance, what kind of contest (being this is just a board with 5 talented producers battling it out). Now if you were going against say Timberland, Dre, Rock It, Just Blaze, etc, scores would probably be different. But on this Level, I believe that the scores were somewhat accurate. Of course I'm human so I'm proned to mistakes too lol.
btw Quality would have been LOW for everybody, since a lot of the kit wasn't high quality sounds you kno? so I factored in that part of it. Everybody made the sound quality better than it was in the original kit.
