hi guys

It seems I really need something portable I can record my vocals with: I normally do my tracks with midi-stuff and a v-amp for guitars so there's nothing audible for my neighbours. but of course I can't do something similar with the vocals where I just need to be louder :).

I could easily get a room room for some hours every week where I could track my vocals without being heard/disturbed, so all I need is something to get my vocals from that room to my PC.

I'm really looking for the cheapest way to do this. I don't want to spend a lot on fancy effects I will never use. I found out that the small digital units I checked out all have these effects (like the zoom), so I thought about getting the small analog tascam 4-track, copy the instrumental pre-mix to a track, go tracking the vocals and copy them back to the PC.

What do you guys think? What other options do I have (kit out my room is NO option :) )?

You'll never get it synced with a portastudio imho... (The machine will inevitably run a little faster or slower when you try to get the stuff back into your 'puter). I think you'll have to go sth. like the zoom or boss way...

yep. that was one of the reasons I hesitated with buying a tape-based tracker.

A nice laptop with an outboard soundblaster appears to be the best value for the bucks: The digital 4-tracks that are still cheaper than a laptop-setup are not too versatile... and they only record ;).

but still - if you guys know a piece that's nothing more than a digital 4-track (meaning recording 4 tracks, playing back 4-tracks) tell me.

thanks.

cheers
