Pop song sort of...

Good god, that's polished. I can hear the For No One bit too, at the beginning, except For No One makes me want to cry, and this song makes me want to shuffle through my refrigerator. I agree with DonF about the ride hits, and with everyone about the compression. I like the melody a lot when it goes 3-4-3-4...7. Overall it comes off a wee bit too robot-like, but I think that it's mostly the GigaPiano. In any event, I'm very impressed.

Out of curiosity, what type of bass did you use, and how did you process it?

Listening through headphones just now I realized I had mis-heard a bit of the lyric.

Käfer, this is some witty and smart writing. Thanks again for jumping in here with this.

I hate to admit this but I didn't even listen to the song. I was only listening to the production. I guess thats what happens when your a tech geek, you tend to miss the big picture sometimes.

Anyhow, Great song! Awesome lyrics!

I was wondering what gear you are using; particularly mics and pres. How were the drums recorded? Nice, clean sound for a (presumably) untreated bedroom.

Beautiful song.

Could stand to hear the drums a little louder, but that's probably because I really want to hear how other people are recording this very difficult instrument, especially on stuff that's sort of close to what we're doing. (Supercreep and I) I will get SC to listen to it real soon.

I encourage you to listen to what we posted a ways back. It's in the creep's signature line I think now.
I'm an idiot and don't know how to set up a link, but we're on nowhereradio under Little Purple Circles.

Hope you post more some day. . .

Where was that?

Wherever it was, it may be that, like here, new posters unfamiliar to the regulars tend to get ignored when new posts are coming in quickly. They're gonna kick themselves in the collective ass when they finally get around to listening.

Nice

Great tune, great performance. I'm listening on headphones and I agree with what some of the others have said about the mix being too compressed. Also, the vocals seem a little harsh in the upper mids, could be the mp3 conversion though.

This is the kind of song, inspired by and derivitave of some of the great bands of the 60's and 70's (I mean that as a compliment) that begs for analog. That said it's a wonderful treatment. Keep them coming.

Ich spreche nicht Deutsches auch nicht. Jedoch 3 Jahre des Deutschen in der High School. OH-Brunnen. Ich auch benutze das Übersetzerwerkzeug Google. Auf Wiedersehen.

This thread is one of the most interesting things I've come across. It's not just that the song makes me feel like I'm 13 again, but more that it makes me appreciate the fact that I'm one of just a few people discovering it.

The uniqueness of the experience has made me bury my usual sneaky/inquisitive side re the source and just listen. And that's actually the problem I'm encountering. I can't stop listening to the song... and I don't even usually listen to pop music.

When I was in music school I got in the habit of playing or listening to works I was studying over and over - back to back repetition - and would just get more and more deeply enveloped by the music. I still like to do that with pieces that capture me as there are different details or nuances I notice each time. The repetition makes my wife homicidal, so I tend to sneak off to do it. Gets kind of funny because she'll call out to me from across the house, "Tim, are you listening to that song AGAIN?", but she thinks it's better than if I was sneaking off to look at online porn.

Listening as we speak,
Tim

We could start a new forum for Kafer addicts. :D

Very few people posess his level of talent and ability. And yet he says, "I'm just an idiot with a little bedroom studio." If he's an idiot, I'm an amoeba. (OK, not really. But he's surely no idiot.)

Ha, that's funny. Not sure what you mean, exactly, but eating is better than crying, isn't it? Thanks for listening.

Thank you Tim, for the great feedback.

Oh yeah, the song....I know just what you mean, you write a song in 2 seconds, and then it's years of snares and compression settings and computer crashes and whatever else, and then you finally start getting to the end, and it's like, oh yeah, I remember this song....

Very cool, thanks.

Very simply really...an AT4033 overhead, an SM57 on snare, an AKGD112 in the kick. That's it...the room is pretty dead...I keep thinking I should do something about it, I read how the room is the most important thing, room modes and standing waves and all that, but I don't really get any of that...

I just listened to Penelope O' Doule. Sounds great...definitely got that 60's thing, just the name Penelope O'Doule sounds very mod, 60's, Austin Powers...I'm downloading the others....

That's what I figured...that's why I was surprised at the quick response here...pretty cool.

Hmmm, could be...I think I may have overloaded the mic a bit on a couple of the louder notes...Thanks very much.

I'm pretty surprised...I really appreciate your enthusiasm...I just thought it was a simple little song...I have to read madmush's post again, he doesn't like the chorus at all....

Thanks a lot Don...but I swear, I'm pretty much an idiot.

Alright, thanks everyone who listened and replied, I really appreciate very much the feedback and compliments and tips (I'm pretty sure I over compressed).

Don the laughs are still choking me after seeing the idiot/amoeba thing.

Hey, I listened to the rest of your tunes, great stuff. I think Crazy From The Sunshine had the best production, really well done. Puts me in the mind of that band Jellyfish, or there was some other band more recently, can't remember their name, had that beatlesque, beach boy thing, nice harmonies and stuff.

And Famous Beagle, if you're out there, I listened to That's What I'd Say, good song! Kind of has that wry elvis costello thing going on.

Oh, and I listened to some Timothy Lawler pieces. Man, he's good. Beautiful stuff.

(Sorry to bump this thread, but I figured it's easier than searching for and bumping the individual older threads.)

Hell, I was about to bump it anyway.

Guys, if you haven't listened yet, stop what you're doing and do it.

And Kafer, thanks for the compliment.
