OMG!
Hey, guys. I haven't posted in a while. This is a pop punk band I'm recording for a split. I need to give both bands their full mixes by Monday to send out for pressing. If you could please point out any glaring issues, it would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing glaring on the one that start automatically. The bass could use a little definition.
It's well within genre requirements.
Well done on your part.

The bass is much sloppier than I remembered it being during tracking. I wanted it to be more defined but it really sticks out and mucks everything up. If I find the time to edit it, I certainly will. Thanks.

how do you record your vocals??? i love how it sounds. its just so real/full

very impressed with the vocals/group vox. guitar at first scared me cause it sounded scratchy but when both come in and bass, it sounds great. i agree with the bass though, it should be fixed a bit, just leveled more i guess.

The recording sounds really good. I agree that the bass seems nonexistant.

Great mix, just define the bass a little more.

It's just a Studio Projects B1 into a Behringer DDX3216(I'm only using the pres). I crushed the life out of it with the Waves RVox plugin. From there, I bumped 2dBs at 10k, dropped a dB at 1k, and rolled off the low end at 200Hz. I put the double and the main vocal track into a group channel with another RVox plugin. It's not as compressed, but it's a decent amount. There may or may not be a little bit more EQ there. The amount of 'verb is slight and not too obvious. Thanks.

Here's a slightly modified version of that song, and the other band on the split.

Bangarang(first band) -

The Wonder Years(other band)[Warning: Explicit Lyrics] -

I have a little bit more time to finish these up now. They're not getting it pressed anymore. (Thank God.)

the remade one is really good, btu now you have to turn the bass down on the part in the middle where it like slows down, cause it overpowers the drums and thats what seems to be needing to be out.

its an amazing recording though. i really like it. great job

dasda

pop punks my favorite
and that song is fuckin AWESOME

i agree. pop punk is an awesome genre of music. I personally dont love to listen to a lot of it, btu recoridng it is aweosme. i love ot be able to compress/ put reverb on REAL vocals, compared to not being able to do much with screaming vocals [which is all i've been doing for months.... since everyone in my area is in a scremaing metal band]

lol

I really your stuff man!

With added bass definition, these will be awesome. Also, I don't know if it's just me, but the toms sound like they are clipping. But maybe it's just me.

But anyway, your sound is the sound I'm going for in my own recordings. Heh.

BTW, the Geraldine song does not work for me.

First mix:

I don't think the toms are clipping, but the initial attack seems to be affected by what I'm assuming is a noise gate. That was the first thing that popped out at me. Another thing that was quickly apparent to me was the kick drum; it's so clicky that it sounds like it clips to me. Looking at the waveform I clearly see it isn't, but that's what I hear. Perhaps find out that frequency and notch some of it out. The snare drum is very pleasing to my ears. I think it could either come up slightly or be brought out more with EQ between 1k-5k and possibly some 11k. Both the guitars and vocals really impressed me.

Second mix:

Immediately like the drum tones better due to your EQ job. Kick is still too clicky for me. I like the definition of the bass this time around; I know how much a pain in the ass making a poor bass track sound good can be.

All in all, this was really impressive. Your clientele will no doubt keep expanding if you pump more of these out. Keep it up Geet.

Thanks, guys.

I guess I should come clean. The toms, snares, and kicks are all sample replaced! The snares are a mix of the original and sample tracks.

The first song has a snare sample I made myself. The kick is a mix of a sample and the original track. It sounded too replaced otherwise. The toms are completely replaced using some samples I found online. They have a strong attack and sound pretty decent. A little fake sounding.. but it works. I had to automate a lot of places the try to make it sound a bit more realistic.

The second song is using the Andy Sneap Dumagog files that were posted on Gearslutz.com. They're multisamples, so it helps the realism. I'm going to start making my own sample sets sometime. It'll be nice to have around.

When I do sound replacement, I turn off all dynamic tracking. I feel like it kills the idea behind sample. I just automate anything that needs help.

I'll be posting the nearly final versions in the next day or two. If you guys could give those a listen, too. It would be super.
