POD for live situation?

Hi all, first time post. We are thinking of getting a POD for our small time covers band. At the moment we mic up a "crappy" amp with a 57. Our thoughts are to go di with a POD? We use a Mackie 808s and EV sx300 speakers. Does this sound a better way to go? Also, what is the situation with our monitor speaker with the POD? I assume we will have to have the guitar coming through this to help the player out, but what about feedback? Any thoughts appreciated, thank you

Most folks I know use the Pod basically for
recording situations though it has a switch on the back for live and recording purposes. I use the Bass Pod for recording and have used it once in a live situation. The sound was decent but not overwhelming to a point that I was better off playing without it.

I just got a POD Pro with the intent on using it for both recording AND live performance. I play in a very contemporary church band, the kind that lets me crank my guitar up to "11" at times for solos. Anyway, the POD Pro, and I think also the POD II, allow you to "tune" the 1/4" outs in "Live" mode for various situations - including just running it into the front of a guitar amp! The amp would have to be set to a "Neutral" tone, usually meaning Bass & Treble on "0", Middle on "5", all the effects and reverb off, and Gain turned down far enough so it doesn't add any distortion. I used it that way Sunday thru my Spider amp and it worked great. None of the problems I've had before when trying to run a preamp into a guitar amp. What's nice about this is I can use the amp just for my own monitor, because I'm also giving the soundman a direct feed from the XLR outs into the mic cable. And that's where POD really shines - running direct, whether into a recorder or into a soundboard.

I have the POD pro also and about to purchase the floorboard which makes the whole unit suitable for live use. The only problem may be if the POD with the floorboard has a half second delay as it used to (I'll have to wait until the shop gets the stock in-I'll be pissed off if I have to spend the extra money and have a delay-would be a real shame as it is such a good unit).

Well, I've had the Floorboard for the last year, using it with my Spider amp. I'd never noticed any delay in channel switching on it. After reading your post, I plugged into my POD Pro w/ the Floorboard and focused on the channel switching. I've read about some complaints with the original POD taking too long to change programs. I'm not sure how long that means. But, I honestly don't hear any delay with the Spider or the POD Pro. When I step on the switches the new program seems to be right there, even when jumping between banks. I stepped on the switches really slow at times, and just as the switch touches bottom I have the new program instantly. It doesn't seem to be any different than my old Mesa Boogie.

Neptune-that gives me confidence. On all reviews I have read the problem is the delay-most said this needs to be cured. Hopefully this has and I look forward to getting a floorboard with the unit-and what a great unit-thanks.
