I'm looking for a unit to put through some power speakers to practice at home, and I have found the Behringer V-Amp II for 60 quid and the Pod 2 for 100. At the moment there is no way I can try either out at the moment. So, is the Pod worth an extra 40 pounds or should I look at the solid enough looking V-Amp?

That's a question that gets asked a lot but never really gets answered. It's really more of a matter of opinion, like "what's your favorite color?".

Do a search and you'll find tons of opinions.

I've owned both and here's my opinion.

Pod 2.0 has a more natural and more dynamic sound which led to less listener fatigue so i enjoyed playing for longer periods with it.

With the v-amp, i could get better high distortion/metal sounds and better clean sounds.

That said, they both sound like modelers. My pod died, my v-amp was sold after i got a real tube amp, so reliability is still a matter of chance, but the Pod does feel much sturdier. The v-amp i was reluctant to move around but the Pod always came with me when i went out of town.

What kind of music will you be playing and will you being using it only at home?

I'm not a huge Behringer fan by any stretch but I constantly read about people bashing their quality. Well here's a good one for you. I own a behringer ada8000 and it gets used on every session(usually for scratch tracks and talkback channels only). I also use a True Systems P8. Guess which one lost a channel first. The true is more than 10x's the price of the ada8000 and is assembled by hand in the US yet it's down to 7 channels while the behri is still going strong with 8. Just goes to show any manufacturer can have some problems. You can also head over to gearslutz.com and catch world renown engineer Michael Wagener using a Behringer bass vamp and stomp pedals on the lastest king's x recording. I used to be a huge snob about stuff but at this point and taking the "if it works it works mentality.

My pod 2 died on me, but I sent it back and they fixed it for free out of warrranty. I like my pod, but really just because I have the pedal board for it. I just don't consider amp modelers worth the price they sell for, but if you can get it on the cheap the POD should make you happy.

Go for a used boss gt-3. I had the V-amp 2 and I grew to hate it more and more as time went by.
