Pod 2.3 upgrade?

One of the main grips I have heard about the POD is that the front end is too hot and it's hard to get clean sounds. Is the lack of volume due to a decrease in the preamp?

I think I'm going to order mine now.

Well I put the 2.0 chip back into my Pod.

The 2.0s output is substantially higher than the 2.3.

This is important for me since I have to run it through a Passive four in two out mixer, the old Teac four channel mixdown switch box, that I used to use with my Teac 3440 reel to reel. This box drops the volume, and since it's passive, there is no volume boost.

But the real clincher for me, was that I had a user preset that I really liked for my acoustic electric, using the 2.0 chip, and I remembered the settings. Also had a recording I had made as a reference.

Well when I put in the 2.3 chip, as hard as I tried I could not get this sound back, and worse I couldn't get it to sound as good.

Oh well, out with the new, and in with the old!!

Why dont you use the software included with the POD to save your pre sets and load them into the new chip? Then you could compare the recorded amp presets in a multitrack editor.

Got my chip today and put it in. I concur with most of the comments that say it seems to have a bit more detail and air in the sound.

I haven't had a lot of time to mess around with mine since I put the new chip in, but to my untrained ears I think the difference is pretty subtle. I compared a few old tracks to some I re-recorded with the 2.3 chip and I haven't found the difference to be very noticeable.

A little clearer sounding, yes, and hopefully enough of an improvement to keep me from buying any more toys for a while. :D

Kinda OT, but...

Has anyone else had the problem of their POD switching amp models if it gets bumped or vibrated hard? Sometimes mine will just sort of skip around until you tap on it. I'm sure it's a bad pot on the amp selector, but I just wondered if it happened to anyone else?

Really? I haven't had anything like that happen to mine.

A bad pot sounds like a good guess. Does your's get joslted around at all, such as using it for gigs?

No, mine hardly ever gets moved at all. And, sad to say, I haven't played a gig in 20 years. Or, maybe it's not sad to say. There was a reason I gave it up, not the least of which was that I sucked. That, and I got tired of dealing with the bs. But, that's a topic for another forum.

Actually Iwas hoping that when I upgraded to the ver 2.0 chip that was going to fix it, but no such luck. Guess I'll live with it for now. It's just me screwing around in my basement anyway.

Hmmmmmm. Let's see ...

- Your POD never moves, and that's because ...
- You haven't played live in 20 years
- You sucked
- Now you just screw around in your basement

Are you sure you're not talking about me!?!?! :D

Info

Hey Fellas. Just got my 2.3 firmware on the way from Line 6. They said that some of the 2.0 models actually have the 2.3 firmware already in it. To check, hold down the "Manual" button and turn the power switch on. Hold the manual button until it shows the P......O......D......2.0 or 2.3. Anyway if you would like the updgrade chip, most of you already know it is free. You need to email your date of purchase, serial number and mailing address to:

service@line6.com

They should get one out to you.

Cheers,

Fangar

I will decide when I get it, but I figure it is free so we all might want to have one around.

Yeah,

I'm keeping my 2.3 chip, but after A B comparison, will probably never reinstall it.

Maybe they had it right the first time, and should have left well enough alone.

You know how that goes, point of diminishing returns.

Anyway I feel privilaged to have the original Pod 2.0, with the 2.0 chip.
