Plz Help Tascam Tape Speed!

Hey everyone, I have a Tascam 414mkII portastudio. whenever i record on the tape and listen to it with the headphones in the portastudio it sounds great but when i finish mixing and what not and play it in a regular tape player the speed is always slowed down terribly. I am checking and double checking that the pitch control is in neutral so thats not it. What am I doing wrong? Is there another step im missing after recording?

Well If you want to listen to what you have recorded on your 4 track machine...on another tape player...you'll have to mix it down to 2 channels. Im not sure exactly how you would go about it with that machine but you wont be able to listen to a 4 track tape on a regular stereo tape player anyways...not the way it should be.
Maybe someone who has one of those cassette recorders can tell you exactly how, but it is most definatly in the manual.
