hey guys... i was hopin u could do me a favor... ill give u two links to two diffrerent recordings by 2 diff. studios.. local ones.. could u tell me the strengths and weaknesses of each.. and which one is better overall.. thanks.. im not talkin musical talent.. but recording quality.

www.purevolume.com/kingsoffallenclouds .. stream 2nd songin list

www.purevolume.com/thornrun .. stream amregeddon of ppl song. thx

There's no question that the first one is recorded better...the mix is still pretty screwy (buried drums, vocal levels all over the place no "punch" at all). The gits sound huge in it though, and you can tell it was just tracked better.

The "Armageddon" job sounds like a home recording done by somebody with little experience and even less gear.

Just my opinion. Just about daily, I hear stuff that guys do at home that beats both of those mixes to a pulp.

Be good,
Chris

You gotta love a song called "Sonic Death Monkey" and day...

Can't tell on the quality - The (mp3?) sounds very lo-fi... The mix "inside" it sounds reasonable enough - Still just hard to tell what's really there... Vox are a wee bit loud on it... I'd love to hear a high-res of it instead...

Can't get AOTCP to run... Loads - Isn't starting or able to be forced so far... PopUp player not working either...

I'll try again some time...

You can't judge audio quality listening to AM radio.... and neither can you judge it listening to lo-fi MP3's.....

I second what John said, post hi-fi versions, THEN we can give you some more reasonable feedback....

for some reason, I had no trouble hearing hi-fi versions. I think maybe I clicked on "mp3" and it worked....

however, I felt both recordings sounded pretty "home brew" and lacked the sheen and punch you would hear coming from a more commercial place over a home brew. The guitars sounded best, but some of the instruments (like drums) sounded like the kit was pretty "run of the mill ruff", before you even did any tweaking with the knobs....making the job of making them sound good almost impossible.

You mean those WERE hi-fi versions???

Oh... if that's the case then you've got some work ahead of you LBC.......

thx guys for the responses... the kings off fallen clouds... the 1st one.. was not recorded or mixed by me... the 2nd one.. the thorn run page. , armegeddon.. was recorded and mixed by me.. a friends band...

i know i still have a ways to go... back then all i had was a behringer mixer , some nady mics, a shure sm 57, and a delta 66, and a RNC that i used to my disadvantage... i know its a poor recording...that was recorded in november... and i started the home studio in june.

since then i have bought a AT 4040, digi 002 r, an AKG D 112, and 4 sm 57s and 2 sm 58s.... i have another local band comin in 2 weeks or so... then ill post it up and u guys can maybe tell me where i have improved...

about the HI fi thing... i dont have one of those versions.. i burned the band the cd.. and tthey uploaded it.. thats all thats online.. thx.

just wondering why your website is forwarding off your ftp and also posts you login and password? the audio wouldnt load for me BTW

hmm... no idea about that.. i charged 5 bucks a song back then... thats pretty reasonable... if bands didnt have that form my studio... it would be a 10 dollar tape recorder in the middle of a room for em.. so 5 bucks aint much . lol
