Ill Soul Productions
im at work this morning and im thinking music (like most of us) but im also thinking about my pro tools system (an mbox mini...so cute looking lol) and all the plugins i use to get my mixes to that point of... AAHHHH euphoria...

im currently using the ssl plugins on almost every channel (the channel strip of course) and the api plugins wen im tryin to pull something out that the ssl just cant get for me. how about you guys?

what plugins are you using to get to that special place only a few engineers get to with those sweet sounding results:D

I bought the package with plugins when I bought the Digi 002, so it came with compressor, delay, d-verb, noisegate, de-esser, and a few other things.

The reverb, to me, doesn't sound real. It sounds tiny IMO. I generallly don't use it.

Mostly, I use gate and compressor, and just focus on getting a good signal.

What about you? Got any recommendations?

Well mine are...

mostly waves plugins to tell you the truth. i have the mercury bundle and use the pro tools eq along with the linear phase eq that waves has. im compressing with different plugins like the API collections 2500 or using the SSL channel strip or even the cb1 which sounds really warm. de-esser wise im using the good ole waves de-esser but ive learned that wen it comes to de-essing you mite need more than 1 on a single channel so dont b scared to try that :)

and i agree with you the dverb sucks to me i dnt know anybody getting any real use out of it mayb on a hard drum kit though...

anyway im using the rverb and the tl reverb that came with pro tools 8 with my singers. the rverb has alot more options than the tl though so its my go to reverb

I used to laugh about D-verb...but now I kinda like it...and I have used a ton of reverb plugs....Im not saying its the best out there....but I always get something Im satisfied with...

so if we combine the 2 will we get the brother 2 dr. rex...dr. verb? lol jk

plugg ins

i got wave plugg inns are they anu good. how do u get a good de esser

+1 for waves...i use the platinum bundle...

big fan of the IRL on busses or even the master depending what's happening.

Any decent EQ and compressor and I'm mostly there.

Waves SSL, eh? That's a pretty damned expensive set of plugins for a guy rocking a Mbox Mini.

I really like the Timeworks EQ and compressor that came with my copy of Sonar 2.0. I don't use Sonar anymore those are my go to comp and EQ. Although I've been digging the EQ and comp that comes with reaper recently.

It's really not the sound it's the interface, most eq and comp plugs sound pretty similar to my ears.

More important than good plugins is a good recording. If you've a good recording, you'll need a minimal amount of plugins (even if they're crap plugins) to make it sound amazing.

Then again, if you've a bad recording, you can have all the Waves, McDSP, and Sonalksis stuff in the world and know how to use em really well. The result will still be a polished turd.

I like the new Air Plugins for PT 8 and I have a waves bundle, Izotope Ozone, George Massey has some nice ones....when I first got started i used the protools plugins and out the demo version of Izotope Ozone on the master fader and set the setting to Mix Master.....WOW what a difference it makes to your mix. Clarity, punch, and just goodness. Now i'm using alot more of my waves

I'll be honest...

I <3 the Dyn3 Comp/Limiter

It's very flexible, and transparent.

lol

i havent seen this thread n a while and yes to drew peterson it is but thats all i need is an mbox mini and le. If i want HD i'll buy HD. To be quite honest though my partners use the bundle more than I do. Right now im stuck in "bootsy plugin land". That boot eq plugin has sorta relit my light for mixing again :D
