Fair enough people. Like I said I don't use it as I use Cubase 4 for integration with my MCU and such...but it does sound like a viable program.

The DAW's all seem to be personal preference to alot of people.

Different strokes for different folks !

I've never tried Cubase, Sonar, or many others..... so I can't say for sure that any one of those titles would not be perfect for me.

To ds21..... people don't typically like Waves plug-ins ?

by the way give some of the Wave (i know some people don't like Wave) plugins a try ie: SSL API, I've tried the SSL bundle and it's like hitting the "Easy button" for vocals!

um.................. what ?

Whatever you said dude....... see quote......

You said "I KNOW PEOPLE DON'T LIKE WAVE PLUGINS"

WHAT ?

You don't like making such claims ?????

Look what you said in post #19.

Ahh I didn't say I don't... I just don't like making them.

Your right Typically people don't like them;)

P.S. you missed the word "some" in your quote of me, it was a mistake right.

UAD-1's drivers are HORRIBLE HORRIBLE things. A lot of people have good luck with them, but companies like Sony and Cakewalk have wasted giant amounts of time trying to get the UAD-1 working properly with their products. They know what the problems are, but they chose not to fix it. If you aren't using cubase or nuendo, you probably dont want to deal with it.

I have one for testing. Someone sent one to REAPER's coder Justin Frankel for testing, and he offered to try and fix it for UA but they declined

Try MajorTom from here: http://stillwellaudio.com/ or the one included in JS with REAPER, if you want to use something hassle free. I have original vintage LA-2A hardware units in my racks and I don't use them anymore except for testing and making presets.

If you really want to spend some time researching on the internet you can make a pretty good LA-2A type effect by carefully tailoring ReaComp's sidechain filter and RMS window

That's what I was asking about, I didn't know there was a debate about them - I thought every body loved them !

George Martin approves them !

only ever used it with cubase and it's been flawless. Thats a shame if the drivers have issues with other recording platforms, I can't imagine working on a project without it now.

Frick.... don't want issue's with something that costs so much.

To start, I think I'll check the other LA-2A suggestions from Pipeline, but I won't rule the UAD-1 out yet.

I am still kind of thinking REAL LA-2a in the summer.

But a real La-2a costs....... 150 cases of beer.

Yeah, it does well with cubase and nuendo. There is a lot on the Chris Milne forums about why it works with some and not others. Youll see it come up a lot in the same instance as when people complain about cubase and nuendo not working well with multiple cores

Heres a bit more wisdom on it:

"Their drivers crash and/or throw error dialogs and stop functioning if the calling application does things it doesn't expect (things that are perfectly valid in the VST spec), because apparently they designed their drivers to function in Cubendo and don't seem to care about other applications.

Specifically if you change the ordering of calls to plug-ins on the fly (something NECESSARY for good multiprocessor scaling, and necessary for dynamic adaptation to changing PDC needs -- both things lacking in Cubendo), their stuff BREAKS.

I'm sick and tired of people blaming it on the hosts. This problem isn't unique to UAD either, lots of plug-in devs have this attitude: "It works in Cubendo, so the host must be broken". This is a huge cop out. Lame.

We've offered to UAD to fix their drivers for them, but apparently they're content with the situation. My theory (OK I don't really think this but it has crossed my mind) is that seeing hosts have great multiprocessor support would be bad for their business, so they're not in a big hurry to embrace that."

ds21, sorry.... I did leave the SOME off, by accident, which sucks, because it takes what you said way out of context.

Sorry dude.

But I wasn't being sarcastic or anything -- I was saying.... "Really? People don't like the waves stuff?"

Because I had never heard of that, and I was hoping you we're going to come back with a link to a thread or something, where people had listed some thing's they didn't like about them.

I thought waves was like - the best of the best stuff.

(I guess I thought that - because of the price tag)

Yeah, ironically their drivers work a lot better in Reaper than they ever did in my Cakewalk sequencer. That's the main reason I switched to reaper

I've got a similar story.

I've got the M-Audio Project Mix I/O, which right now there is a big push for it to be used with Pro Tools M-Powered.

In so many ways, the Project Mix I/O works alot better in Reaper.

It responds properly, you can use your master fader, the assingable encoders are easier to use with the FX's. Way more stable.

It's just better in Reaper.

Wow, I'm buying a uad-1 card, and all I gotta say is:

Thank God I have cubase!!!! lol

BTW pipe, I'll take that card off your hands if you don't want it ;)

I've been talked out of it for the moment.

It it we're $200 with the potential of some problems, maybe.

But $500 with the potential of some problems..... when the Reaper guy offered a fix and they declined ?

Not going to do it for now.
