I have been given the oppertunity to purchase two adat machines for what i think is a really good price!!! They have low head hours and look in great condition. But there is a problem!!!

they are two used Alesis LX20 ADAT eight track recorders. The units only have 202 and 204 hours on them. they are being sold with their reference manuals and a little remote controller (possibly two if the seller can ever find the other one!), he has said to me that, one unit either needs a service or calibration (or just a good set up?). When he last used the units together for a live recording (October last year) the units recorded fine, but simultaneous playback for some reason was a problem, the units would not run in sync, but both recordings were fine. I'm fairly sure its nothing serious - but I'm not an expert.

does anyone know what the problem is?? Is it something to do with the sync cable being faulty??

I would be greatful for any help as he wont wait for a decision from me for much longer!!! Thankyou in advance.

Stop cross posting. It doesn't get you an answer any faster and you'll piss everyone off.

Im sorry if i have pissed you off!! Its just that i am in a real rush to get an answer about this problem. I didn't do it to cause offence or any problems. I did it because i wasn't sure which category it fitted into! is there any chance you know of the answer to my problem??

Many thanks

I cant say i know the answer, but why dont you try ringing up the actual manufacturer? ask them about it, if they could fix it, how much it would cost etc etc. You might get better answers from them?

Good luck!

Peace :)

Thanks Tifstorey for the help. Ill get in touch with them and see what i can find out. cheers mate

That's normal. :D

Why bother dicking around with obsolete technology?

You can buy a couple of brand new Delta1010LT cards for $220 apiece, and sync them via s/pdif. There you go 16 tracks of digital audio and no sync problems

because these are being offered to me for hardly any money and i cant afford to buy what you are suggesting. I am a student and dont have piles of spare cash lying around. I just thought that these adats would be good enough for what i need until i can get enough money to buy newer and better equipment.

My question is: Do you have the mixer(s) you need to use these machines?

I have an LX20 and the Alesis 8-track mixer that goes along with it. Each is pretty useless without the other.

I got the LX20 used, with low hours, but had to send it back to be fixed. If I hadn't bought it from a place which fixes them, it would have cost me a fair amount of money to have it fixed. Factor in maintenance cost!

But, if you're paying next to nothing, what do you have to lose? Next to nothing.
