..to the latest song I've recorded.

It's the third on the list at http://www.mp3.com/nathanielsimpson - Hold On.

It's all done at home (you can tell..heh) with Cakewalk 8.0, an SB Live, cheap RadioShack mic. Vocals (my sister), bass, electric guitar, and sampled drums ('cuz I don't have a drummer.) Sorta laid back pop/rock.

Comments/suggestions welcome, of course.

Thanks;-)

Oh..while I'm here.

p.s. Any comments on the song "Everything" would be appreciated as well. I posted this up about two months ago and got absolutely no feedback so I have no idea what's thought of it. Was recorded with same equipment/vocalist as "Hold On."

Thanks.

Hullo..

Listened to Hold On.. I'd sure love to have a singer like that up my sleeve.
Maybe the guitar lacks some definition.. Drums could "human up" a bit, or at least vary a bit more.. Nice song.

Everything.
In my headphones, the bass and hihat dominate the mix... Hard to comment on this one.. I want more sounds.. that ambient melody gets kinda lonely back there..
OK.. redo the end.. plz ;)

All in all.. good songs..

Thanks

I really didn't know what to add to Everything - the bassline really dominated the song from the beginning and the ambience was the only thing I could come up with. Any suggestions on what might go well with it (instrument-wise?)

About drums - what programs do most people use? I'm using Hammerhead to synthesize them - they are a bit digital sounding and I heard someone mention that Fruityloops can "humanize" them...ideally, of course, I'd like to get a real drummer because I'm not a percussionist.

Thanks for commenting, anyway:-)

Adding instruments to your songs I leave to you. :) Just play around with it a bit..

I've been playing around a bit with Fruity Loops a bit lately, and I find it very easy to make the patterns more human.. (and if you cover it with distorted bass and guitars, it's even less obvious it's a computer).

Try it out.. Very easy to work with...

Nate - Nice tune and good vocals. THe song itself was excellent. As far as adding instruments, maybe a clean guitar with a wah jumping in every once in a while. I would just experiement with whatever.

I also thought the hat and cymbals were a little too busy for the song. You said you were no percussionist and neither am I but I use a drum machine and have found that I would usually want to error on the side of too little cymbals instead of too much.

The tune is really nice

"Everything"...nice...you could maybe add a little guitar counter melody to take some of the monotony off the bass line....just a thought

"Hold On"...at about 0:42 that sudden guitar volume bugged me...another good song, though...vocalist really wonderful, and made the most of the mic....gibs
