Hello all,

I've realised lately that a major factor hindering my mixing is my acoustics. To cut a long story short, I need to get some treatment on in my room. Like many people, I'm just a hobbyist and my studio is also my bedroom. I live in rented accommodation and any treatment would have to be floorstanding because I cannot touch the walls at all. Besides this, I'm likely to move house a few times over the next few years and I will need a portable solution.

To better illustrate my problem, I decided to model my room and current setup using the free Google Sketchup 3D program. I measured the dimensions exactly, but they are not specified in the images below. So that you have an idea, the height of my room was 238cm or about 7.8 feet.

The images are located here:

Bedroom Studio 3

The configuration of the room is limited mainly by the double bed and I would rather if any solution could be achieved with the furniture in the current locations. However, it might be possible at a squeeze to move the desk and monitors to where the keyboard currently is and then move the bed accordingly.

From what I have read so far, one of the first things I should look at is the addition of bass traps to the corners due to the size of the room. I had an idea that I could maybe make some DIY floorstanding corner traps, but haven't really thought much through yet. If required, a flat panel could be hung on the back of the door, but I cannot hang anything from the walls or the ceiling.

I'm not looking for an overall room solution to start, rather I will build it up as funds dictate. What should I look at adding first?
I would be very grateful if somebody could provide me with input into where I should locate different kinds of treatment etc, or suggestions about what sort of solutions might work for me.

Please give me your thoughts, I'm all ears!

Cheers,

Tom
