:( My goddam music pc just exploded. The power supply blew up. Replaced the power supply with an old one i had...The pc turns on now...but...

It basicaly when it starts, the first thing it always does is show the flash screen for the motherboard (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe) then it goes through the normal bios password etc and boots. However, now it just gets stuck on the motherboard flash screen (which i might add has a slight green tint). Also I cannot turn the computer off from there by pressing the power button and have to cut it at the mains.

Checked inside, Fans spinning, light is on in the motherboard, Hard Drive's are clicking (please god dont let them be fucked).

I have backed up all my music, so i havent lost anything or anything...but had anyone seen this before? Any expert able to offer an opinion. In any case I'll buy a new PSU tomorrow and hope that maybe some of the lines into the motherboard just arent working with my current one (unlikely lol)

My suspicion is that the motherboard is fried. I'm about to do one final test by taking out the BIOS battery to reset the BIOS.

Any help that anyone can offer will be greeted with extensive kowtowing.

Cheers

At best it's a wiring issue... That would explain your powering on problem...

At worst it's your motherboard....

Exactly the same thing happened to me about 2 months ago. Even had flames shooting out the back of the power supply

However, my motherboard wouldn't even POST. Dead as a doornail.

I also lost 2 IDE drives, a CD drive, a video card, and a SB platinum card. Which pissed me off because I was using it for MIDI.

Have a look in BIOS to see if it sees your hard drives during the POST. They may be toast - if you can't even get into the BIOS, it's probably the MB.

I took the opportunity to build a new recording PC with a quiet case, faster processor, etc., but you may not be in that kind of position.

Good luck, though !

Yup. Flames came out of my power supply too. Wasn't Q-Tec was it?

I cant get to the BIOS. It just goes straight to the motherboard graphicy flash screen picture thing and thats it.

I'm gonna hook my hard drives up to someones pc at the weekend if this aint all fixed by then to check if they are ok.

Pisses me off. That PSU wasn't even a year old. And it could potentially cost me a fortune in fried gear.

Well thats Q-Tec on my list of people not to buy from..ever.

And I'm definitely not in a position not to have a fully functioning pc, so if it costs me then it costs me. I dont care. But I will never stop giving Q-Tec shit for it if thats the case.

You can put Raidmax power supplies on the list too... This happened to me as well.. ONLY I WAS ASLEEP in the same room at the time.. I thought it was either the rapture or death... Luckily, I moved the whole setup to an Antec Sonata II case (came with antec p/s)... and all was well...

Hey, so did I !
Nice case, isn't it ...

And my PS was a PoS (piece of shit) that came with my previous case. Never again...

and legionserial - check the bottom (circuit cards) of your hard drives. Mine had visible burn marks where IC's had blown out. May save you a trip to your buddy's place ... :p Sorry about that.

Sure is! I have 4 hard drives, 1 cdrom, and 1 dvdrom in this thing (using y connectors for power)... It was pretty quiet.. But I got the opportunity to move the whole computer to the next room.. So I did.. Now the case door is removed all the time... Stable as a rock! No blue screens of death since I bought the new case (which was months ago)...

Woo Hoo

:D Its working again. Nothing got fried as far as I can tell. The only reason it wouldn't work was because stupid me overlooked the fact that the DVD drive was still attached to the motherboard, but not the power supply. As I had disconnected the power from anything I didn't deem neccessary while I was trying to fix it. I think the motherboard basically has problems loading with an unpowered IDE device attached to it. Which makes sense.

Fried my monitor somehow tho. Its wiped out the blue so now everything has a lime tint. Eugh.

It's probably not the monitor, probably the videocard.
