Howdy,

I found another track on that Cambridge website and spent about one and a half hours mixing it. I think I got things to sit pretty good in the mix, but would appreciate another set of ears. Beware it is 8 minutes long, so set some time aside.

Thanks.

Edit: I redid the compression chain on the master, adjusted some levels, and re-did some vocal effects. Everything should sound better now, please listen if you have a chance.

I listened all the way, before reading your post. You only mixed it.
I have stuff like this on DVD from Waken. It can make a good show.
The drums: They are either a very able drummer, or programmed. I'd guess programmed.
The girl singers: A bit loud and in your face (and dry) over the quieter music.
There's loads of words in it, but I have no clue what it is about.
The electric guitar: You get that falling note sequence in the first section. I get the feeling it is the same snippet pasted over and over.
That male singer near the end: Not my thing, but I've seen other chaps make a better job of throttling their voices like that.
I'm afraid this one sounded like he was sitting comfortably in front of a DAW, and not doing it convincingly.
As for the mix, you're starting with questionable material that you have no control over.
I listened on my new headphones (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro), which other tracks sound good on.
This one sounded a bit muffled.
But hey, I stuck it for 8:32.

Vocals are too loud - pitchy - and generally not good - guitar playing is really good but generic - drums are weak.

I think the drums are real because the peaks of the kick track are not artificially perfect. (At least the kick track is real imo).

The only gear I had to work with was a ThinkPad Laptop, a Vocaster One audio interface, and some Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones. I no longer have studio monitors.

Like I said in my post, I was just trying to mix some track outs I got from a Cambridge website.

I can't tell if I added too much compression on the master, I think I might have distorted the kick a bit? Not sure, just trying to reign in the levels.

Please give it another listen if you have the time.

I tried to balance the vocals better with this latest version. Please listen to it if you have a minute.

(I also noticed the guitar player and drummer are very skilled).

I did listen all the way again.
There is a lot of competency in the playing, and the girl has a nice voice.
Yes, the drums do sound real.
Looks like they are a decent band, and I would probably enjoy the live show.
The mixing doesn't upset me. I don't know enough to pick tiny holes in it.

Guitars need to louder - Vocals need to brought down - and yes both the drumer and guitar player exhibit skill -it’s just not very interesting to me.
