Please explain.!? Huh?

I'm looking at a m-audio firewire solo...... and it states

6 x 4 24-bit/96kHz audio interface

Now by looking at the input of this device in the picture provided i can only find 4 inputs (5 if you include the s/pdif input)

So where is the other input of am i just missing the point completely... (which i think i am)

Edit: Looking at the Firewire Audiophile has kind of the same thing

But I'm looking at the pic of it and the specs and it only really has 2 plus 1 s/pidf input as well

But if i just plug an ordinary rca cable in there what will happen??

Do i have to get a s/pidf to rca converter or something like that.....

How can i utilise the s.pidf in a normal recording enviroment because i don't really have any devices that require s/pidf

s/pdif is a two channel digital connection
the connectors are RCA but the actual cable itself is different than your standard RCA cable...it's a 75Ω coax cable.

some synthesizers, CD players, digital standalone work stations, or other digital devices sometimes have s/pdif on them. if you don't have any gear with S/PDIF on it you really can't use it unless you get an A/D converter. some microphone preamps will do this for you.

also...i'm just now reading the specs, but it appears that it's only 4 input channels (maybe not necessarily all at the same time...some devices let you use either analog or digital and not both), and 6 output channels which appear to be 2 digital, 2x1/4" balanced outs, and a headphone jack (which they're probably considering another 2 channels out).
