Pink floyd were more inivitive and fresh, and were the better band, although led zeplin had some great guitar riffs.

" inivitive " ? - huh? I never got invited to anything they did (bastards!)

I used to like Floyd quite a bit. That all changed when...

I'm standing in like to get tickets for their show, at the CD shop right next door to the pizza restaurant I used to manage. I'm getting pretty close up there in line when suddenly, this raving maniacal wacko bitch comes running out of the front door of my restaurant (i.e. one of the other managers). She starts screaming that Kim (my girlfriend at the time) decided not to show up for her shift, and I had to go in there and work for her. Turns out Kim was a little too busy fucking a buddy of mine. Needless to say, I didn't get tickets.

I could only blame Pink Floyd for this!!

no question

you shouldn't even have to ask. pink floyd, hands down.

they covered more styles and experimented more than any other band, they've got the best lead guitarist in history (not because of "chops".. but because gilmour's note placement is just fxcking imaculate), and their albums are much more cohesive in general.

But black contains all colors. :D

An artist will tell you that black contains all colors, but a physicist will tell you that it reflects no colors.

Understand this truth and you will understand who the better band is...

And really, it's about reflection. Black reflects no colors, white reflects all. Black absorbs all colors, white absorbs none. One could say that an object that absorbs all colors actually contains them, while an object that reflects all colors actually contains no color at all. A red object, since it reflects only red light, could be said to actually contain all colors except red.

It's kind of a grey area :D .

Yes. It all makes sense now.

Ebony and Ivory. Live together in perfect harmony. Side by side on my piano, keyboard, oh Lord, why can't we?

I am going with Floyd, in my opinion you don't get more creative than gilmore on lead guitar or his arrangements. Waters lyrics are awesome (time -dsotm, the trial - the wall)

But I will be honest, I'm not as familiar with Led as I am with floyd, Led is great but I'm going with floyd on this one.

I was under the impression that Gilmour played the same solo in all of Floyd's stuff....

:D

As for experimenting with styles, you don't get any more diverse than the Beatles. From 'Love Me Do' to 'Revolution #9' in 6 years.

I agree that the better musicians were from Led Zep. Page and Jones were both studio musicians, and Bonham was, well, Bonham. I'd only give an edge on vocals to Floyd because I think Gilmour is a better singer than Plant.

A lot of guitarists were inspired by Page to pick up the guitar; A lot of stoners were inspired to get wasted by Pink Floyd.....

:p

Here's another vote for Floyd. They hardly made a bad album IMO. And the band really has two different lives. The one with Barrett and the one with Gilmour.

Led Zeppelin are a great band, but really, it's just a bunch of blues tunes sped up a bit. They played them well, and are timeless. But I fail to find the really creative spirit in most of their stuff. Nothing that makes me go "wow". Well, except for Bonhams kick drum. Damn that guy had a fast foot.

And for the guy who keep yelling about the Stones. You could make and argument for the stuff that Brian Jones was on, but the other stuff is just rehashed old shit. But even still, they are no Floyd.

Lots of people have stated their opinion, fair enough; but why do some have to state their's as irrefutible fact?

Is it that small?

This is music people, one man's meat and all that.

The best is the one you like the most.

Having lived through that era, yeah I knew Thomas Jefferson personally; I think it important to relay that during the time of their reign, Led Zepplin had much higher album sales in the period they were together. They were more popular and their albums were much more awaited.

Remember, they turned the music industry on a dime after the release of their first and second albums. It was Paul Revere and the raiders and other groups with hits like "Yummy, yummy, yummy I got love in my Tummy" that were playing on the radio; real bubblegum stuff. Led Zepplin made everyone turn their heads and go HUH!

Pink Floyd was considered too jazzy in their day (remember everything was about straight up rock in roll in those days) with those long scale structures on the guitar solos. They were outside the mainstream. Over time they gained a cult following which even after they broke up continued to grow. Technically, if tight recording is your goal , they were probably superior.

Led Zepplin spawned a whole era, almost 20 years of metal and rock n roll. Pink Floyd did not come close to this type of adulation. Led Zepplin was all about feel and mood and taking you to sound places no one had experienced.

Hey, I like both types of music although I would admit that over time, given the maturing of people’s tastes that Pink Floyd could possibly be more enduring. How many Led Zepplin knockoff metal years did it take before the public got burned out, leading to our present state of the business.

Queen!

Ow, wrong topic... =)

Like Pink Floyd more. I don't care it is less constant, maybe that's why I even like it more. I like it when musicans keeps trying new stuff. Not that I likes it all that much. My fav. is Atom Heart Mother, but you gotta like it... Just mentioned it cause nobody else did.

Good luck with your strange quest.

huh?

Who said that Pink Floyd covered more music styles than Led Zeppelin? Think about that one again.

I'd like to vote for both bands. I would also like to put in my vote for...wait, it won't all fit in here. It's silly to argue about who's better. They were both amazing in my eyes.

They're a pretty even match as far as I'm concerned, But I'll give it to Pink Floyd. No reason other than personal taste.

They All Rock sooooo........

Which of them had better hairstyles?,....... you can't just look at the music and be all too serious over this, in the end it is only Rock 'n' Roll and supposed to be Fun.......but as time moves [and people] we tend to get a little too serious over all of this.

Well I know.....we all do this for Fun, so let's keep the ball moving, so for now it is Red and over to the left we see........Sorry, let us leave it here before I get too carried away....

I've just been listening to 'Relics' and 'A Saucerful of Secrets.' I haven't heard these albums in years (and I never listened to them regularly). They're great! A lot of experimentation, and the music sounds fun. This stuff is in sharp contrast to latter day Floyd, where Waters' bitter misanthropy started to have the same effect on me as Bob Dylan's voice: I can only listen to it in small doses.

I need to get 'Umma Gumma,' now.

And the wind cried Mary

Hey Guys,

Coudn't just leave it there eh with a silly remark, no I love them both as much as a lot of you do by the way, and this "Who is the Best" is only a joke to get us going to debate about what is so close to our hearts. So no vote here, but I will tell you what I think of them. Some points have already been mentioned, so I'll keep it short...........well I'll try......

Zepp: # Well......hmmm... wonderful interplay with all the various instruments
#Like how they have been able to fuse all their influences and techniques into their own style [Rhammer19 mentioned sth. about that earlier]
#The fun thing is still their, even today the spark comes off in their music, well done
# Tight gtr. arrangements and SOUNDS [though some of you have mentioned that one before]

#Mysterious and Fun at the same time, some songs just sound as one long jam while others will take you on an entirely different trip.

Now the Floyd: #Sid Barrett Yrs: Funsongs and a lot of experimentation
# Roger Waters Yrs: Introspection and Darker songs
# Dave Gilmore Yrs: Lighter in approach than Roger, more variety ect.

Overal I think some of the Waters' stuff will appeal to teenagers, as a lot of his work is about growing up, identity and insecurtity, it is all there. Hey MK Ultra, you mentioned that "Animals" brought you back to when you where 17, so there you go. I have that myself a little bit with "The Wall", so I guess I am a little younger than you, anyway.......

Zepp is lyricwise not very interesting, it seems that they were going for the music and just stuck in some words for sake of variety, they had a ball with the music anyway, so no one will blame them for that......

With the Floyd it seems that the music supports the words rahter than the other way around. Not saying this is better, just different approach, as all you songwriters here will agree with.

Over time I think Zepp will remain its appeal, as their sound is more universal, though it is Rock, but there will always be a market for Rock. With the Floyd, phsychedelia is a phase of the sixties and early seventies, and as time moves on we seem to get further away from these ideals[unfortunately] Some of those ideals had great universal values in them, but times are different now, no more "real heroes" and much more of a diverse and segmented world.

These are just my ideas, and they would probably be different if you asked me another time, our thoughts are only a reflection of the moment, anyway have said already enough about this, so next subject could be "What is your favourite flavour of Toothpaste" see where this one would get us....

Oh before I leave you, I have to say to MK Ultra that I really like his pic.looks a little bit like a..P##sY......Well you know what I mean!, or I am using my imagination here a little too much?......[oh I am not trying to offend you eh, no reasons to, just speaking out my mind, though sometimes you need to be carefull with that one] Nice anyway, very well done.

Eddie :)

both

They both rock for this reason especially! Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin were the two largest contributors to the budget of Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail. Ahh...connections.
