Hey Guys,
Coudn't just leave it there eh with a silly remark, no I love them both as much as a lot of you do by the way, and this "Who is the Best" is only a joke to get us going to debate about what is so close to our hearts. So no vote here, but I will tell you what I think of them. Some points have already been mentioned, so I'll keep it short...........well I'll try......
Zepp: # Well......hmmm... wonderful interplay with all the various instruments
#Like how they have been able to fuse all their influences and techniques into their own style [Rhammer19 mentioned sth. about that earlier]
#The fun thing is still their, even today the spark comes off in their music, well done
# Tight gtr. arrangements and SOUNDS [though some of you have mentioned that one before]
#Mysterious and Fun at the same time, some songs just sound as one long jam while others will take you on an entirely different trip.
Now the Floyd: #Sid Barrett Yrs: Funsongs and a lot of experimentation
# Roger Waters Yrs: Introspection and Darker songs
# Dave Gilmore Yrs: Lighter in approach than Roger, more variety ect.
Overal I think some of the Waters' stuff will appeal to teenagers, as a lot of his work is about growing up, identity and insecurtity, it is all there. Hey MK Ultra, you mentioned that "Animals" brought you back to when you where 17, so there you go. I have that myself a little bit with "The Wall", so I guess I am a little younger than you, anyway.......
Zepp is lyricwise not very interesting, it seems that they were going for the music and just stuck in some words for sake of variety, they had a ball with the music anyway, so no one will blame them for that......
With the Floyd it seems that the music supports the words rahter than the other way around. Not saying this is better, just different approach, as all you songwriters here will agree with.
Over time I think Zepp will remain its appeal, as their sound is more universal, though it is Rock, but there will always be a market for Rock. With the Floyd, phsychedelia is a phase of the sixties and early seventies, and as time moves on we seem to get further away from these ideals[unfortunately] Some of those ideals had great universal values in them, but times are different now, no more "real heroes" and much more of a diverse and segmented world.
These are just my ideas, and they would probably be different if you asked me another time, our thoughts are only a reflection of the moment, anyway have said already enough about this, so next subject could be "What is your favourite flavour of Toothpaste" see where this one would get us....
Oh before I leave you, I have to say to MK Ultra that I really like his pic.looks a little bit like a..P##sY......Well you know what I mean!, or I am using my imagination here a little too much?......[oh I am not trying to offend you eh, no reasons to, just speaking out my mind, though sometimes you need to be carefull with that one] Nice anyway, very well done.
Eddie
