If you get an acoustic or acoustic/elec., take a look at Takamines. Best bang for the buck I find...

One option, which most here will strongly disagree with me on, is to get a Variax electric. No, they don't sound exactly like an acoustic, but they don't sound any worse than some a/e's I've heard, and you will have a lot of flexiblilty as far as instrumentation goes.

Variax is indee worth considering. I dig the acoustic sounds of my Vax better than the sound of my Ibanez a/e, especially those resonator emulations;)

I just found one that I like, what are your thoughts on the Takamine EF341CLH? I found a left handed model and I'm thinking of going for it.

Takamine makes good guitars. If it sounds good and feels good, get it.

i'll do my best to clarify, I have very little money, so for now I will have to operate on one guitar, very little choice in this matter.

A lot of my stuff is acoustic and this whole show will probably remain acoustic, but there is a decent chance that I will need distortion in the future. so, I'm trying to decide which to get for now, the acoustic/electric or the electric.

I mainly do strumming on the acoustic though there is some finger-picking, bands like The Decemberists and Bright Eyes come to mind for a sound similar to what I'm looking for. I just don't know which kind of guitar will suit me better right now,

if that didn't help, tell me what you need to know.

I thought you were a EBM/Industrial guy?.......... Oh god not Bright Eyes!

I play around with a little bit of everything, which tends to cause more trouble than it's worth, but until I find a band and a real direction I just keep jumping around in direction. Finding a band has been the single greatest struggle of my life.

I know what you mean, I think bands reject me cause, well...... I an asshole!:)
Or so I'm told.

I have done tons of Genre jumping and will say it has mostly left me feeling more frustrated.........

I just decided it best if I stay on one path and hope for the best, thats why I'm doing solo performance with a looper and a mp3 player.

Hope ya find a group soon.

P.s. work on your rythem and timing and you will be in more demand with any group you audition or look for.
