I really hope to get to Vegas one day.. That must have been a rip.. My only problem is I am a degenerate gambler! (among other things)

Yea, there 's fun to be had by all there....... ......and as with all "degenerate" addictions... its all about moderation.

...and when i figure out how this moderation thing works, i'll let you know:D

FLASH UPDATE

Nobody has made me stop listening to it yet.

Cool tune Sam (as usual). You tend to think outside the box and I dig that. Can't find any major flaws in your mix. Maybe the E-bow part could be a little more up-front.

I tried to listen last night but QuickTime was being wierd (said it couldn't understand the file- WTF?) so today I trashed my Nutscrape and QT prefs and restarted. Had to reset my browser prefs but now it works.

Another great tune, Sam!

I can't give a descriptive review or critique,... it's just another really nice composition, and really well done. I've got no criticizm, just applause. Great job.;)

Sorry it took me so long to get to this. The new band starts this week and I'm spending day and night getting the last minute details together.

I'll have to say I think this is my favorite tune of yours. It's so damn creative. kinda reminds me of early Floyd. I like both sections and I really like the e-bow stuff. ( I'm gonna have to get one of those). The mix is fine....one of your better ones.

You, sir, are the Phantom of the BBS! :D lurking at the edges ready to surround us with the maniacal genius of another samicidism. I always look forward to your stuff, and as you can see by the number of responses, so does everyone else.

thanks guys!

Guernica - hey I'm going to Atlantic City in 2 weeks.. I guess it's more of the po'mans Vegas, but I can just as easily lose all my money there! :D no doubt... I don't know when to hold, but I always fold.. I can already smell a bust out! :D :(

chrisharris - you better stop before you go blind!

M.Brane - yeah, after I read your reply I listened again.. I should make it louder.. thanks for the ears man!

A Reel Person - thanks Reel! It's amazing what one can do when they have no life! :D :(

Lt. Bob - glad you found it.. You were very close to a p.m.! :D "Phantom of the BBS!" I like that.. thanks Lt.! I always wait for your comments.. Looking forward to our next collab.. Don't worry, I won't make the same mistakes.. :)

mixmkr skipped this one, but I know he listened to it!

:D

I enjoyed this hugely - I want more of it! Seriously, it does feel to me as if it should go on for longer. More sections, we need more sections. The booing reminds me of an Adrian Belew track: Adidas in Heat, I think it was, where he plays this blinding solo which is booed by the entire studio.

If someone with 0.5 posts to their credit can be allowed to have opinions, I would have liked the e-bow brought out more. Just luurve e-bows. :)

Interesting material, it has a sort of 'filmic' quality (I'm not explaining this very well). I like the arrangement overall but I thought you missed a trick with the string pad over the piano, I also thought it needed something in the lower register, like a bowed double bass or Cello and the strings in an arrangement rather than the organ chords that dont seem to add as much as they might to the overall.
The ebow playing is great I haven't heard one used in ages

I don't think you're done yet.

This has been knocking on my skull for a bit. Why did I type the above?

I think I figured it out. It is all about the "boo's". No, not booze!:D

when I hear the boo's, I think two things...

1) "He's added the boo's in anticipation of a reaction to the piece. And what better way to equalize and nuetralize a percieved negative than to point it out first.

2) "He put the boo's in because they fit with the dramatic score that he's creating and I just can't see the full picture in his head due to the fact that I've only hear one (i.e. THIS) movement in the entire production. In short, I'm not privy to the full picture and suffer from a lack of context.

Sam,

Please note that I've listened twice (I think, if not more) and the piece makes me wanna write a story or scene or spoken word poetry behind it. I love the piece and can't comment on the mix cause I've doltish ears. But, why does it FEEL like it is a part of a greater whole?

I won't be suprised at all if my flacid insight is, once again, missing all aplicable marks. Just wanted to clear my head of these thoughts:) :o

Peace out,

Theron

Peter Maydew - it seems quite a few people said I should bring the EBow up.. thanks for the feedback.. I might turn this into a bigger idea...

Matt303 - I tried to add bass, but I couldn't get it to sit right with the piano.. I have a hard time whenever I try to add bass to a piano. I think I like the Cello idea.. I have used it a few times.. thanks for the feedback man..

theron - I understand... You think it sux! :D I just sent you an email about something else..

the mix is as good as they get IMHO ...

too bad but I don't get the music ... maybe it does need imagery or story or something... I dunno....

sounds like you are just playing with ideas and sounds, (new keyboard? :) didn't you just get Xp30). is there BBE in the mix somewhere? :D

cheers Sam

thanks Fed.. There is BBE on everything except the organ and and the drums.. Maybe I'll turn this into something bigger.. This was the Alesis QS6.1 and the xp-30.. I used the Alesis for the piano and organs.. thanks for bothering man! :D

Man...I get the music-----big time. It's like a sonic tapestry/electric classical thing. There's not supposed to be a verse, verse, bridge, ride.....verse. It's supposed to evoke an overall mood, perhaps conjure up some images in your mind. Am I right?

I likes it. More please....thank you. :)

well... one thing for sure... that chord at 0:06 is something else...
it supposes... evokes... and conjures.... :)
I just not sure what yet... :D

and Sam it's no bother man... I told you before you are good ... (maybe a little musicaly uneducated... but who ever was stoped by that :D .. I'm not) I like your stuff for it's originality though it is a little too dark for my taist
cheers

99% of the best singers, players, bands etc of all time were Musically uneducated so sam is in good company!;)

I see a lot of people with music education without a damn thing to offer musically......strange aint it?

I don't know about 99% but I'll agree it's a majority.

No amount of education can give you good original ideas or feel.

When people ask if I know music theory I tell 'em not enough to screw me up.:D

I'm not getting dragged into the whole, "trained" vs. "untrained" thing. I'd be happy if I could train my dog to not pee on the bath-mat. I'm just posting to say that my faith in mankind was restored a bit when I saw a couple of extra stars tacked onto this fine piece of work. Stars are meaningless...I know...but man! It's been a week, and I'm still listening to this.

THE END

hey Fed, I wouldn't say I'm "musically uneducated."
I would say I can't read or write theory.. BIG difference my friend.. :D I hear ya though.. Theory is not necessary to understand music.

Kramer - your right.. A good friend of mine can read and write music like a champ.. He's always buying the tablature books, etc. He records 2 songs a year.. usually covers.. :)

Lt. Bob - I love reading something like that.. :) I think I forget that most people won't see the images that I see when hearing it.. you are too kind my friend..

chrisharris - I hear ya! :D thx man..

Same here. One of my best freinds and the guy who always hooked me up with decent gear since I was a teenager, knows music theory inside out but his playing/recording skills are still on a beginner level after 20 years or so of playing..he cant write an original song and 99.9% of the songs he records are cover tunes......he seems to get more out of covers than original music.......he can show me how to play something but he cant play himself......I guess it would be nice to know some music theory to open up new windows in my mind on how it all works but it's definetly not neccesary to write original heartfelt music.

hhhmm... I graduated from Berklee in '78, and I felt those where musically the best 4 years in my life, and I'd love to go back for another 4 years.

Sure...ya hear [jazzers, for instance]people that know their brain stuff, but can't get a tone, nor a melody if you yanked them. But, it think it is only another item to add to the arsenal to make ya better. No...not a requirement , as proved over and over, many times before. Sure didn't hurt Vai, however. I think if people know a little theory/harmony, etc...they feel compelled to HAVE TO use it...so evey chord change they write, emphasizes said fact. A little discretion goes a long way, imo.

Sam...I think your plunger knowledge is really starting to show thru!!:D :D

flush the chord, roto the lead....plunge the drums......:p

oh...btw...sure...manager's ok with me... 50%?? ;)
