I'll be recording left and right guitar separately with same mic position. Do I need to use the invert phase button on my art tube pac? Do i need to record one side with normal phase, and the other with inverted phase?

No. You can if you want but it will be somewhere in the range of barely noticeable to inaudible.

Nope, the difference between the two performances is what gives you the stereo image.

Some people try to take one performance, copy and paste it and invert the phase to create stereo, but it sounds like crap and cancels out completely in mono.

Doing this will phase cancel the recording, so when you have the 2 channels paned hard left and hard right it will sound OK but disappear when monoed.

Try my trick, not stereo guitar as such but I like it, if I only have 1 guitar in the song, I record with 2 different mics, usually something like an sm57 or Sennheiser 421, and the second mic a Large condenser or a ribbon mic, the choice depends on the desired sound or style of song, I then pan these tracks to some degree to open the sound up a bit. You could also try this with a 1 close mic and 1 room mic?

He's doing two takes with the mic in the same position.

I think ashcat_lt, Farview and I interpreted "separately with same mic position" to mean doing multiple takes without moving the mic.

Where did he say that?

If that's so forget everything I said LOL, still you do not need to change the phase.

Though it does leave the question if he's moving the guitars... Either way, I stand by my answer and agree with bsg and Farview.
