Will phantom power hurt a mic that doesn't require it? I'm sure it doesn't, but just wanted to make sure.

I'll be running a condenser mic through a mixer along with several dynamics. I'll need to have the phantom power on to use the condenser.

Cheers!

I have used a 57 with phantom power before and it was fine.
The guy who does my bands live sound uses a couple of condensers that require 48v and the board he uses has global phantom power which means ever mic including the 58's, 57's and the kick mic are getting it. I have heard that you can damage a cheap mic but I can't recall where I read that.

no, It wont, Ive never had that or heard of that happening

It's just a very small charge

couldn't hurt a fly.

I have had the Phantom power turned on on all the channels of my board for 8 years. It has never been a problem. I have heard that it is bad for ribbon mics, but I don't know for sure.

I bet if you ask this question in the mic forum, someone there would know. Especially Harvey.
Ask your question there. There are lots of people there with tons of mic knowledge. They can tell you for sure.
