So here's the first big test on the new system here. I've been really busy breaking this thing in, sorry if I haven't been around here much. The drums were done on 4-track- and then bounced down to the computer, and eveerything else was done in Vegas- with a lot of editing on the drums in Soundforge- I crapped out the bounce- the kick was clipping every time- I didn't realize that red meant BAD! even if it only said 0db (oh well live and learn) Sonic Foundry Clipped Peak restoration did a lot of work here- I was surprised about how much I was able to recover. There are a few clips in the beginnig that I just could NOT get rid of
This is a completly different take than the first Perfect crime. We made a few changes and managed to shorten it by almost a minute! I'm done for now- I may add a few things in the "monkey" part (some bass overdubbs) and redo the mix of course- And I'd like to retrack the first verses- I just can't get the performance out of me this week- this is a very taxing vocal to sing!! It's way fast and tricky.
This is the biggest thing I've done MIX wise so help me out here! My ears are completly non-objective at this point (man I've been obsessing- I had to make my self stop!)

And oh yeah is it loud or quiet? I wanna be able to get my MP3's and loud as Ed's one day!

I had split the stereo file up into two mono files to work with them seperatly and I'm thinking that I had some processing that I had forgotten about already on the stereo file when I did the split to dual mono and so the split got fucked! I resplit it and what do you know, two clean tracks! Man I spent like two days trying to save those drums, and now discover that I have a good track after all! I don't know how I didn't notice at first. I had been blaming the soundcard and the fact that I had to mix on the fly using headphones due to time and place constraints (either that or the mono PA in our practice space) So It's back to the races for me on this one! I will have a much better result to be sure this time! The kick won't be squashed all to pieces! and the snare wont sound so much like a trash can! This is bitter sweet news, I'm glad that I not an idiot and let the drums peak like crazy when I recorded them and that I'll get a better recording, but to think that I've wasted four days getting this thing as near perfect as I could gets my goat! I'm both mad and happy at myself right now- it's a strange feeling! But now at least I have a little experience in trying to get some piss poor sounding audio up to par! (I think I did a good job with that actually
