Hi Again!
Does Anyone know wich are the best monitors for Computer Recording? (low budget...) We can afford up to $200 or $250
Is it possible to have cool monitors for that price?
We are now using a pair of amplified Edifier Ramble and they are not good for monitoring, but it was what we could afford in that days...

Thank you all

Heard about Terratec EWS64 XL Sound Card?
How is That?

Monitor 1's

Has your sound card gor jack outputs? Try the alesis M1's. if you can afford them, get the active versions. or try the yamaha ns10's. dont buy cheap monitors...!

I recently picked up a pair of KRK Rokit's for $200 from guitar center. I am very happy with them.
These are passive, so you will need an amp.

Yamaha MSP5s, i played with them at guitar center a lot, i like to go there and just sample everything. and they are great. i cant afford $600 for an amp/monitor combo. With the MSP5s, you get the clarity you need. so maybe its hyped SLIGHTLY in the low end but that is becuse of over compenstion for a small box. this is not in the circuitry however. if you realise this which youprobably will you notice it isnt that bad. it has goo bass you feel it. it doesnt hfeel like you are walking through a swamp though. and then youhave settings for bass and treble incase of strange room setups ie.monitors close to a wall, crazy bass response turn down the bass 1.5dB. they are cool.

a good idea would be to buy one used, that way you can get better quality for any price range .

Ebay.com would be a nice place to find a bargain

MSP5's

what are these like? im thinking of getting them to sit by my ns10's for nearfields in my 2nd studio. can someone tell me how they are?

Well im using the monitor ones , and they seem great. I wish i had known about the active versions , as i would have been happy to spend the extra on the monitors rather than an amp , oh well. But they are great affordable monitors ..

This reminds me of an experience I had when my band recorded a demo a while back. We used our PA speakers to monitor our sound, and it sounded GREAT. Then when we listened to it in our car, or on our home stereo it sounded like crap. What we realized was that with cheap speakers like that everything will sound ok, but nothing will sound great. So if you're not monitoring the sound you're recording properly, it's going to sound really bad in the end and you're going to hate yourself for not getting nice monitors.
After recording our crappy sounding demo I decided to buy some nice studio monitors, and it cost me about $2,000. Of course that's really expensive, but you get the picture.
By the way, I'm recording on a computer. The monitors are powered so you can run sound directly from the output of your computer and not worry about running the sound through an amplifier first. The nice thing about getting powered monitors instead of using an external amplifier is that you're not going to accidently blow the speakers.

Later

Passive monitors and an amp are safe as long as you put a fuse in the circuit between the amp and the speakers- or use an amp that =can't= blow the speakers.
I like my passive Event 20/20s with a 65W/channel amp
They're rated for a lot more!
Follow reasonable common sense guidelines and leave your main volume down until you're finished farting around with connections or settings.
Your speakers aren't the only thing you can damage. :)

"Yea, I forgot that mic was on when I turned up the amp. Sorry".
