Ok, I recorded this last night in one sitting. It was too late to turn the speakers up so I had to do the majority of the mixing on headphones. I was still able to use my speakers a little but at pretty low volume.

It took roughly 2 hours. I haven't taken a break and gone back to it yet so I'm not really sure where I am on this...if it's any good or if I just need to dump it and start over.

This is a complete re-do from the previous version. Please nit-pick at this because I'm really trying to improve. As I said last time, I haven't been recording for very long at all, and I'm not a killer guitar player either, so don't be afraid to be mean. I just want honest opinions. Thanks.

It's a 6MB download, but please take the time to download and listen/critique. The more opinions the better. Thanks again.

Edit: I put a streaming link in here too but it's 128KBPS. Sounds much better on the 192 downloadable one, but for those who won't want to:

Yamaha Acoustic -> MXL V63M -> DMP3 -> EMU 1212M -> Audacity

Cheap stuff, I know. :o

it sounds great. i have a Yamaha acoustic also (FG-345II), and she's my pride n' joy.

Yea Yamaha makes some good guitars, even the cheap one I have.

I raised the level on the lead guitar a little but it doesn't really warrant another upload.

That guitar solo at the end is hard. Bending the strings when using medium guage (13's). :o

Anyway, I'm open to any and all suggestions/nitpicking.

Anyone else? I listened to it again when I came back from work today and now I'm not so sure...sounded ok last night after hearing it over and over but now...

:o :(

Sounds clean and natural. The high lead line when it comes in could sound thicker... maybe some finessing with just the right limiter to thicken it without making it compressed sounding or loud. Closer miking can do that too, if you have the right mike/gtr for it. Best thing about the recording is that it's really well in tune and has a tight rhythm. That makes any production sound good.

Very nice indeed. One of my old faves to sing and play as well.

If you ever looking for some vox to it, I would be happy to take a shot at it :)

Keep up the good work man!

edit - I just noticed you didn't finish it! You stopped right before Axl goes crazy! :D

Sounds great. Thats a very natural and authentic acoustic tone you're getting there. Thats no easy feat. Acoustics seem to be like drums in being hard to record well.

Theres some slight timing and playing issues, but they seem to add to the overall feel of the song. Very, very good overall. :)

Thanks, wasn't expecting anymore replies. I was starting to think it really, really sucked.

Either way I'm really not that happy with the sound of the guitar. I think I need a new acoustic.

How much do I have to pay to get a good acoustic sound? I don't like the way mine sounds...

It's not a matter of mic placement, I just don't like the way it sounds. Doesn't sound "bad" but it doesn't sound good to me either, don't really feel like recording anything. I guess I'm picky.

Does anyone know what kind of guitars were used in this song? This is why I recorded this, to see what my guitar sounded like compared to theirs and how close I could get it.

If I want that kind of guitar what kind of budget should I have in mind and what guitars should I try out?

Thanks.

Dude, how many times have you tried recording it? How many different mics have you used? How many rooms have you recorded in? How many different pre's, processors, etc have you used? How many times have you had Slash and the boys jamming on your guitar in your room using your setup?

Your guitar sounds pretty good. Your recording sounds pretty good. Keep playing with it before you scrap the guitar.

Sounds great! Nice job on the guitar sound. I like the panning effects used - creates a nice open feel..
