Ok so i'm sitting at work, and this decides to pop in my head I thought this would be a good thing to ask or talk about.

So what do you like to write lyrics on paper or computer?

I write alot of my lyrics through typing on Microsoft word. It like it cuz I can always just back space for erasing. I write on paper just randomly, but I will find a hole in the paper when im done through all that shifting and changing of words. I get really frustrated writing on paper. However I like the feel of it though.....

so what is your pick?

You have to write in blood on a silk sheet still warm from a virgin's slumber. Otherwise your songs will be crap ;)

hahaha the blood part I have tried. When I was into slayer.

The intial writing process!!

Me thinks Garry Sharp is taking his art a tad to serious :D

I always write my intial lyrics long hand with paper and pencil (always pencil to allow for numerous changes). I find paper and pencil to be more "intimate" during the intitial creative phase.

Once I have the bulk of the lyrics laid out, I then type it into Microsoft Word. At that point I start really working on re-writes which change a phrase here and there (which is relatively easy on a computer).

Once it's on computer I can enlarge the font, highlight accented words, input time markers and do other things that are very helpful in the vocal booth when tracking vocals.

word definitely....or even the cheap text program that comes with windows. i can think as fast as i type but if i write as fast as i type then i usually cant read my writing

Nice keep it coming i"m glad things are even in out.

I like both for certain reasons. Mike H you got your down to a science haha. That was pretty cool though I liked your process.

I'm trying to write more on paper these days to get the feel for it again. Cuz it is more personal, but i"m a terrible writeer with alot of eraser marks. Or should I say I just think everything sucks!! haha

It just doesn't feel right starting up on a computer....sure is nice once you're under way though.

HEY! Where's the "Both" category?

I prefer paper & Pen when writing tunes. I usually do my best work when away from the computer and... well lemme paint a scene:

I live WAY out in the country, so I could prett much set up my amp (Marshal Stack + 2 Cabs) out my back door, point it at the field and crank it with no complaints from nighbors. So I usually am sitting outside (in the summer anyway) writing and playing with a pen, paper, clipboard, and no distractions - just beautiful scenery... very inspiring.

But once I have something pretty much solid, I hit the PC and Word it up... then I print it out. (Seems a bit redudndent I know, but if you seen my handwriting you'd understand. -- I gotta type it up while I still can decypher it.)

i like writing by hand. when i'm stuck for a lyric i like to doodle in the margin. plus, writing in ink kinda consolidates your ideas a bit more. makes them a bit more permanent.

plus you can do it anywhere. i've got a book of about 200 sheets of plain paper i carry around with me in my bag, and whenever i'm on the bus or got ten minutes at school or sat in a coffee shop somewhere, and can't think of anything better to do, i'll scribble down some ideas.

hell, i even hate lined paper - much too confining. all those words trapped between two lines just doesn't work for me  :o

hehe

I actually use both. Sometimes a line or two or a whole verse will come to me when I am at work. I will type it in and email it home to myself or throw it on my thumb drive.. If I am at home I usually use paper. So mostly paper... yea.

paper...de-definitely definitely paper.

Always on paper. They don't get transfered to computer until I am creating lead sheets in Finale. I'll go through pages for a song sometimes, but I just like it better.

I am a cigerette packet sort of guy or anything I can get my hands on when the creativity is flowin' ;)

dang, i never write them down....i guess i figure if it's a keeper i'll remember....although sometimes i wish i could remember some of the older ones i didn't think were so good

I once wrote an entire song including guitar and drum parts, lyrics etc ... on napkins at a SubWay Resteraunt...

People kept looking at me like was was some obsessed mad scientist creating a rocket formula... hehehe

Two verses and a chorus, left and right hand. Don't remember where, but I was visiting a friend in Chicago at the time (years ago) and our consciences were... altered... :D

It really depends though. If I am "inspired", I can type faster than I can legibly write. But usually paper (or suitable substitution) at the beginning. Quite often while driving or performing menial/repetitive tasks, which always makes it interesting to dry to decipher.

Should have added "whatever works" as a choice for the poll! :)

aha!! and legibility is the key!! :p

the amount of times i've come back to my book and wondered 'what the hell does that scrawl mean?!' then spent hours trying to decode it, then realised it was crap anyway :D.

ah well.

its all fun!

i'm sure if every song that was intended to be written Got written, there wouldn't be enough blank CD's to hold them all!! :p
