Panning problem.

Hi. I am using cool edit pro 1.2a on my new computer. I want to be able to pan my tracks. If I have a dinky pair of speakers hooked up the panning works fine. I however want to monitor with my stereo system and I can not figure out how I can hook it up. No matter what I try nothing works. What cables do I need and how do I hook it all together. P.S. my sound card has three eigth inch jacks for speakers. Thanks in advance Matt
