I'm no painter, so let me get this straight......

You fine wet-sand after the last clearcoat, then buff?

Thanks again!
That's the kinda stuff that happens over at GN... well, that and a whole lot more.
Where do you think Pearl, et all, go to steal their revolutionary ideas? ;)

I didn't think there were any more revolutionary ideas with drums. They've pretty much been the same for a billion years. :D

Whoever started this thread should be asking a automotive painter for advice on this because I think Crankz has us all beat.

Yeah, those blue drums are da bomb. I don't have the skills, technique or equipment you have, but I did okay refinishing a set of drums, too. No pics, but I describe what I did in this thread:
https://homerecording.com/bbs/equipment-forums/drums-percussion/taking-wraps-off-322626/

I did it without spraying, in part to see how it would turn out. Does not look as cool as crankz1's kit, but I proved that you can do good things with a paint brush, sand paper and a buffer.

IMO, wraps suck. Well, to be more precise, re-wrapping drums sucks. I saved a good chunk of change (by not buying new wraps,) I like the wood grain showing through the clear coat, and I think the drums can resonate better without wraps on 'em.

After my experience and seeing crankz's kit, I may never give serious consideration to wraps, again. My next-door neighbor is a pro paint and body man, and he's already helped me with other painting projects (a couple of motorcycles,) and said he's be happy to do drums for me, too. ++ on crankz being the shitz on this.
