That sucks bad Chris. It's kinda scary too not knowing if the feeling will come back all the way.I cut the back side of my left hand(behind the knuckles of the pinky and ring ringer, almost even with my wrist) on the job 7 years ago and didnt know if I would play again. It was so deep that it cut into the little blood vessles and nerves AND those ribbon like things that go from your hands all the way up your arm that cause the fingers to function.I got lucky because it didnt go all the way through those elastic like ribbon thingys....however,I didnt have any control over my little finger or ring finger for 4 weeks....I could ball that hand up in a fist(2 weeks later when the stitches came out and the swelling went down,Oh ,and I had to go back to the ER late at night the same day I got stitched up.My hand was swelling so much that it popped all but 3 stitches loose) and those 2 fingers would remain as straight as an arrow while the others balled up into a fist.Thats when I got scared.............anyway to make an already boring story that I thought you could indentify with short. It got better gradually and except for a little numbness on the back of my hand I have full function of those fingers.Thank God.The end.:D

Hopefully your hand will heal up quicker than mine did!Im thinking healing thoughts for you man.:(

Chris--That is not good news at all. However, I have heard of others who have had similar accidents to the hand--James Taylor and Kenny Loggins to name two. They went through the numb thing and slowly the feeling did return, so lets pray that you are as lucky as they were.

Do you have movement in the finger? Can you hold a pick with it and apply pressure. If so, you can get around it. If not, there is always the thumb pick route.

If it gives you any hope, I had my ring and pinky on my left hand (fretting hand) smashed in a car accident. The car tipped on its side as I stuck my hand out the window to break my fall. I somehow pulled it out just before the fingers would have been lost. I lived to play again. For a couple months I wasn't sure I'd be able to return to music.

Anyway, this sucks. Just don't give up. If you have to strum with the thumb and middle finger, so be it for now. You can write and you can sing and you can strum. You'll make a ton of great music. I'm counting on that.

What a fucking EGO!!! Clark Kent roams among us, lol.

Reflexes are a bitch sometimes, I know...that statement just struck me funny.

Seriously, thanks guys...I shouldn't have even posted this little piece of self-pity...but I just found out, and I'm pretty impulsive.

To answer your question Crawdad...I can move the finger up and down and to the right, but not left...at least, not on purpose...it's a really weird sensation, actually. I can see it moving left when I relax, but it's like I'm watching somebody else's hand. Oddly, before I ever started playing guitar, I had my "pinky" finger almost severed by a hay baler when I was about 12...cut all the way through the bone laterally...literally hanging by a thread...but they re-attached it quickly and used (of all things) LEECHES for treatment. I'm not kidding about this. Anyway, the leeches were painless after they attached, and they apparently help keep a positive blood flow going to promote regeneration. Anyway, I can't feel about 90% of that finger, but I can move it...This thought occurred to me as I was reading Kramer's post...so I'm sure I'll adjust fine.

I hate it when people post stuff for sympathy...but I'm afraid that's exactly what I did, LOL. I guess I was hoping a couple of you would have had either work related accidents or mishaps while trying to stop automobiles with their bare hands that have been overcome. Glad I was right, LOL.

Hell, I've already mastered the art of typing the "Y" "H" or "7" keys with my left hand, and this post only took me about 12 hours to type...:D :D

Night guys.

I always use something to press garbage down into the trash can.

I saw a man with no arms play a beautiful classical piece on a six string guitar for the Pope...WITH HIS FEET.

I knew there was a reason I always use my foot to push the garbage down!

I've been very fortunate to never have a serious hand injury, especially working around machinery for most of my life.

Hope you get your feeling back. Keep moving it!

mabey its the lo fi mp3.

MAYBE???? Jesus, tell me I'm not reading that correctly. Surely the guy means that a 128kbps mp3 IS lofi, right? I mean...RIGHT????

Of course, if he hasn't downloaded any tunes, I can see where he'd be a little disappointed, lol.

I seriously think he's talking about lo fi stream and not mp3.......if he based his whole post on the quality of the lo fi streams then he has got to be the stup....ah forget it.

Hey, Chris, good luck with that hand. Hope it mends soon. Don't push it too hard too soon out of anxiety. Give it a rest.

In the meantime, address your unconscious mind with this question: "What do I need to know right now?" Jail and a hand injury, both at the same time. Some things are accidents, some things are cause and effect. It's hard to tell sometimes, but in case your string of bad luck is the latter, make yourself receptive to 'messages' from your own mind and dreams. Just making yourself receptive is half of it, whether you pick any message up or not.

Just do it. You're the one with the avatar of that baby with that fucking finger up in the air. :D

I've got St. Augustine, and one of the things I like about that grass is that it knows how to stay dead for awhile, lol.

I am having to do some weeding, though...dammit...DAMN YOU WEEDS!!!! I ONLY HAVE ONE GOOD HAND LEFT!!!
