We use one of those Fender Passport PA's for vocals when we practice and can never seem to get them loud enough before feedback takes over. I've had better luck since moving to the basement (from garage) for the winter and being able to spread the speakers further apart, but feedback is still a bitch.

We play pretty loud, but this Passport is more than strong enough to blast the vocals over the playing... IF I could find a way to get rid of the feedback.

I know nothing about PA's etc, so if anyone has a suggestion, bring it on...

I've found that a uni-directional mic pointed away from the speakers helps cut down on feedback. If you're using a normal cardiod dynamic you're gonna pick up more of the speakers, creating feedback. Messing around with the EQ can help quite a bit too. Or maybe you need a different mic. When I got a Beta58 I was able to get a lot louder vocals out of my crappy PA before feedback.
