Does anyone have experience using the Oxygen8 to control soft synths in Tracktion2? For now, I just want to use it to control Crystal, Synth1, Stringer, Drumatic, and TriangleII (yup, the freebies). Any program glitches? Can I set the knobs to control parameters (oscillators, arpeggiators, etc.)?
I also want to use this set-up live for a few songs (I am primarily a guitar player). Also, would it make any difference in a live setting to run through USB straight to the laptop or MIDI out to my MOTU828 to the laptop? I would prefer not to bring the MOTU, which is why I'm looking at USB connection controllers.

I used an Oxygen with Tracktion2 to control softsynths with no problems at all.

If you want to actually record the continuous controllers in Tracktion you can do it two ways - either activate the red record button that's to the left of the play button in the transport and be sure to deactivate it when you're done, or go to the 'Automation' tab at the left of the screen and bring up 'create midi controller mappings'. This will bring up a screen in which you can select a midi controller sent from a knob on the Oxygen 8, then select a parameter that the controller will be tied to on pull-down menu that has track numbers, the devices/softsynths that are on that track and a list of every parameter available on that particular device.

Keyboards like the Oxygen 8 internally convert midi data to a USB stream, so there's no difference using a midi connection or a USB connection with modern midi controllers.
